I am creating a free app for iPhones and iPads that will have SAT vocabulary (500+ words so far), SAT math questions, and an SAT Question of the Day (different from College Board’s official one). The vocabulary part of the app is basically flashcards and the option to quiz yourself. The math part is a wide variety of math questions from previous tests and other sample problems based on SAT math concepts. The app will notify the user everyday of their upcoming test and the Question of the Day that they can do.
I am looking for suggestions for additional content. What would you like to see in a test prep app?
My current plan is to release the app this summer.
Just a suggestion, but for math perhaps, provide an option that toggles showing the answer choices, so that users aren’t too reliant on guessing until they get it correct. From a coding perspective, this shouldn’t be too difficult to implement.
Not too sure how useful this is, but your call.
Above all, (I am sure you know this), you should make sure the SAT-type questions or explanations aren’t junk, and make sure your app isn’t buggy or anything, otherwise no one would install it. For example, if the answer was 3 and a user inputs 7/2, you don’t want the app to return “correct” due to integer division. This is the simplest example I can think of, but there are plenty of other ways one could introduce small bugs.
Unfortunately, many have tried, very few offered something worthy of their efforts, and I am afraid that even fewer have found any success. This was the case a decade ago and has not changed much. The SAT best weapon remains your head and a sharpened pencil.
