Anybody know if there is a disadvantage to submitting an app to a DI scholarship school before an official visit? One of the schools on my daughter's list has an early deadline for their merit scholarship application and you must be admitted (rolling) prior to applying for merit awards. My daughter is in the process of firming up OV dates, but the deadline is coming up quickly. My daughter is ready to submit her app. Thanks!

Fishy,

Of course you know more than I, but what would be the disadvantage? would you think they might not offer athletic aid if she were eligible for more in the merit arena? Could it not also work to her advantage, being already in the pipeline for acceptance?

I’d say go ahead and submit her application–the coach will be happy that she has shown definitive interest and timliness. He will be able to get a clear response for adcoms if he decides he really wants her after the OV. And she can be considered for the merit scholarship, also good!

Thanks for the replies. I did not want to risk missing the merit scholarship deadline, which could be significant, so decided to just go ahead with it. My daughter just got home from school, pushed send and is heading out the door for practice. So, her first app is in, woo hoo!

yay!

And I certainly hope it’s not a bad thing because my daughter has had hers in for a while … waiting till the last minute could have been risky anyway due to the delay in the school getting their parts in, the ones that had to be mailed.

Was this not a common app school? My daughter’s first app was through the CA … and then she did the one free one through the email link she received.

Nope, not a common app school. No essays for regular app, and just one essay for scholarship app. Test scores have been sent, the school will send her transcript tomorrow and she should have a decision in the next couple of weeks. Wish is was all this easy!

wow, couple of weeks … I’m sure you will be happy with the decision!
