App Status - some materials still not received

When I check my Amherst account, it says my three recs and school report are still missing. I know my counselor sent all my stuff on the same day, and Brown has already said that they have received everything. So is it just slow handling by Amherst, or have my materials gotten lost in the mail? Should I call them or is it too early to be worried?

It never hurts to call and ask.....

Call, as suggested. Amherst is usually pretty efficient. The only thing that should now be "missing" even if it is there is the midyear report. Also check with counselor.

one of my recs. for Amherst says missing also, and i know that it was mailed the week of Christmas. I'm going to give it a couple more days, but let us both hope that it is just slow handling

I wouldn't worry about it. The stuff is still in the mail room and hasn't been filed yet. I doubt if they have started reading essays yet.

actually, i just looked, and my personal statement/main application are missing for both amherst and brown. I sent one on 1/1 and the other on 12/31. Should I be worried because neither of them have shown up as "received" yet? or maybe a better question is... how long should one wait before getting worried?

The other question is how worried should you be before you call.

I would not personally worry about it yet. Today is only the 6th. The mail would have taken a couple of days. It goes into their mail room that was deluged with apps/transcripts/recs, they need to open the mail, and then enter into their computer that it was received. The deadline for them to reply to you isn't until April 1.

Amherst is still "missing" some of my stuff. Start to worry? Christmas break's long been over...

They should have received it long before now. Resend them.

Checking the status of your application and addressing any missing info is REALLY important. True story: my son applied to a number of schools his senior year, and even after all other schools had notified him about his acceptance status, one lagged. The online status indicator said "under review". Finally, we pressed the school for a more definitive status, and they said, "Oh, we couldn't make a decision because we never got his transcript". We rectified the omission (or, more likely, loss), and they promptly waitlisted him (presumably, they had extended enough offers already). Fortunately, it wasn't his first choice school and an acceptance wouldn't have changed his final decision. Nevertheless, the moral of the story is be persistent in ensuring that the school has everything they need. Stuff happens... HS counseling offices screw up, colleges misplace items... Don't wait too long to fix any problems!

how long must you wait after you send in your applications to check their status? for example, i sent in all my apps on dec. 31st. I was only given a website address for BU. I wasnt given anything for columbia, usc, sarah lawrence, tufts, uva, etc. even though all those applications were filed online, except of course for SLC whose supp was mailed in. when should i be sent something to check the status of those apps?

if the deadlines were on jan. 1, when should i call to check? i don't want to bother them about it till they finish everything

Might want to shoot the adcoms an e-mail.

how do you check online?

You can only check online if the college has a website that does it. They will mail you a userid and password.

Yeah, UPenn, for ex., just sends you a letter.

Don't lose the userid and password letters. Scan them and store them on your computer.

my daughter applied early action to most of her schools; fortunately one contacted us to let us know they were missing a teacher rec. We contacted the teacher and it turned out other things he mailed with her recs (including Netflix returns) had never gotten to their destination. We called all the schools and found that none of his recs had been received. They all accepted faxes from him followed up by mailed hard copies.

Colleges with incomplete applications all let us know. But it took them quite awhile to get through everything they had and contact us.

You might check on the Amherst board if you haven't already and see if other people still have missing documents indicated. It could just be slow processing things. If they haven't gone through everything yet, if you call all you will be told is what the person answering the phone finds on your account (which you already know!)

I just received my ID from Mt. Holyoke and Bates today. Exciting day! :D Unfortunately some things haven't reached Mt Holyoke yet. puzzled  Could've sworn I sent them online.

I sent my apps through registered mail from here December 29th. Seems it only reached/processed by Jan. 10th. I'll say give them at least another week or so before you email them. Like a week before you send your mid-year report so you can send it all together.
