Amherst still hasn't recieved all of my stuff either...nervous

I was appalled to find out that my D's guidance office mailed in her transcripts and other supporting materials only 3 days before the deadline date for a RD application. This was after having submitted the request almost four weeks prior. She apparently waited till she had completed work on all of D's applications (8) and then claims to have sent them all out at once. Granted, the deadlines for the other schools are mostly Feb1 but there were also several rolling admissions included in her bunch. Is it common to have a four week delay between requests for getting records sent and actually getting it done???? This is not a huge HS - this guidance counselor probably has about 50 students to process out of the 200 or so seniors. Anyway, we were really wondering why none of the colleges had her supporting documents yet even though D's parts of the applications were sent in more than a month ago. I was just wondering if this happens often and I am just new to the process and didn't realize how much time was going to be needed? The guidance office states that requests for transcripts have to be made no later than two weeks before the college deadline so we had thought we'd be giving plenty of time. So, in summary - check with your HS as much as you would with the colleges themselves so you can be sure that your info was actually sent !

I sent my Mount Holyoke supplement and writing sample last tuesday the 10th, so i'm guessing it got to them on thursday or wednesday, the website still says they have not recieved these documents, should I give them more time or call? the deadline was the 15th.

masha, I would wait a while before emailing them. I bet they have a lot of apps to go through. Maybe until Friday.

I gave my counselor two months....four weeks is nothing

My counselor did my 12 RD applications the same day I gave them to him. I don't know why it would take so long.

piaffe2,

I wouldn't worry. All the deadlines I've seen for colleges are for things to be postmarked by specific dates, not for receipt by the college. Many kids (my son for instance) mail their applications a few minutes before the post office closes on the deadline date. It doesn't make any difference.

Everybody else,

As I've said before, it takes a while for colleges to process all they've received. Things get lost in the mail or their systems all the time. It happened to us three times last year (two schools for test scores, one school for a recommendation). Everybody let us know, we resent, and everything was fine.

I'm trying to remember how long it took colleges to know the file was incomplete. More than a few days or even weeks, certainly. Their offices are mounded in paper right now. If something hasn't been processed yet, they aren't going to go searching through the stacks because someone calls or emails.

I would advise people who are really worried to call the admissions offices and ask if everything they've received has been processed and should therefore show up on the web site or whatever. If it hasn't, you just have to chill until they do so (ask how long it should take and if applicants will be contacted if things are missing).

HELP!! How do you check... i havent gotten any pins or anything like that.. im getting worried...

Since you are worried, just call the admissions offices and ask how you can check. They will either tell you: they will contact you if something is missing, they can check while you are on the phone, you should call back around a particular date, or they will be sending a pin and it just hasn't reached you yet.

I can't remember when my kids got their pins. I think some took awhile. But there is no reason to lose sleep over this. If you are worried, take a few minutes and ease your mind.

thanks... will do. i live in guatemala so that makes things a little more dificult, im afraid that things will be lost in the mail! but oh well ill call then

Yeah, I thought of that. You could email, but then you can still worry while waiting for an answer. At least with calling you can get an answer right away, or I would hope so.

I just got my confirmation email from Swarthmore. However, though they have everything else, it says that they're missing my second teacher's rec. My counselor sent in the school report and the 2 recs in one package, so it's very odd that one rec is accounted for but the other is not. Should I send in another copy of the "missing" letter?

I would call them. The person on the phone may just repeat what it says on the email, but you might be able to judge whether the college thinks it is a problem yet. It probably would be a good idea to send another copy if the phone call doesn't resolve it.

nbachris, I am in the exact same situation- everything was received by Swarthmore but the second teacher rec! and i'm sure my gc put them in the same envelope. none of my other colleges list anything as missing. well, it seems like one missing rec is a fluke, but two like this, at the same school?

I've gotten no notificiation about my regular application from Wake Forest (my scholarship app has been confirmed complete), there's no online way to check and my check to them hasnt been cashed yet....hmmm

taddirose,

so what are you going to do?

my gc will call, and, if need be, send another

are you going to wait for them to tell you about the incomplete app, or are you going to send it ahead anyway? they specifically ask you not to call them regarding missing portions of the app.
