Apparently disqualified from cal grant? Doesn't make sense?

Ah, sorry I was looking at Cal Grant B. Just don’t sweat it, you’re eligible for Blue & Gold right?

They probably made the same mistake that I did and looked at your application for Cal Grant B >_<. I think you should call them.

Sounds like Cal Grant noticed something after viewing your parents tax form. Either one of your parents has an asset that is worth a lot of money. In other words, one of your parents have a butt load of cash sitting in the bank–and lots of it.

@lawlking No not at all… I really think they made a mistake

Remaining Eligibility (years): .00

is that the mistake?

@navymike

I think that used to say 2 years now it just says that.

When did you graduate HS?

@ChefCookSwag
you will definitely get blue and gold. they just use calgrants IF you qualify for them. and blue and gold requires that we apply for cal grants. but we still get blue and gold if calgrant rejects us. that’s why UC schools are so great. getting accepted to a UC (if you qualify for blue and gold) is so great. because it is just a good as calgrant. you are going to be fine dude.

Do you by any chance are 28 and over? Sorry to ask about your age, because cal grant also apply an age ceiling.

for people 28 and over they should still be able to compete for the competitive calgrant awards. although, they may have changed that this year, can’t remember. but last year it was still possible to compete if you were over 28.

hey,
i just got disqualified as well, but I think I know why.
I did not graduate in cal HS nor cal resident at the time of graduation.
The funny thing is, why would they even gave me a chance to give me an award?

I actually did not know about the specific requirements and my family is bit worried about the tuition fee.

Do you guys know if I am eligible for the other awards? ex. blue & gold?
and when do I receive final financial award notice?

I need to tell my father, who is outside of the country.

help!!!

woo
to qualify for blue and gold you must: be a california resident, file fafsa, update your gpa at calgrant (even if you do not qualify for calgrant). family earning below 80k. and you must be attending a UC school.

UCB has raised the income ceiling to 140k but i don’t know if that is for blue and gold, or just other financial aid.

check your financial aid page and see if it states that you have qualified for blue and gold. also if you are a resident your tuition will show at around 13k, non residents, 35k (or something around that).

northbeach

it does say i qualify for the blue & gold, BUT is that a 100% guarantee award???

yes, providing they accept your “SLR” Statement of Legal Residence. did you submit that yet? and was it accepted? if you are not a resident, then i have no idea how things go.

anyway, your award already shows the “grant” portion of your financial aid award, and that IS blue and gold. not sure which UC you are attending, all of the UC aid packages are a little different but blue and gold is UC wide. most student have around 5-10k they need to take out in federal loans per year. regardless of calgrant.

remember, state schools do not offer blue and gold. so if your parents say they don’t want to take out the loans or pay the 5-10k, a state school will end up costing even More than a UC. the blue and gold plan covers all tuition and fees for the students. but you will have to pay your own rent and maybe food, as an example. that is normal. and even if you were not in school, you would have to pay that anyway, right?

So I’m a little confused as well.

I was disqualified for the CalGrant Entitlement Award, on the basis that I was not a Transfer student transferring into the four year institution for the 2012-13 year.

But does this qualification mean that I will not be getting any money at all, now?

^Lol everyone is asking the same questions over and over. @silentglaive If you qualify for Blue & Gold, don’t worry, the UC is covering your tuition.

Btw, getting a Cal Grant doesn’t mean they’re going to hand you money. It’s all going straight to the university to pay for tuition.

I don’t attent a UC, I go to CSULB.

So yeah, I guess I need to get a loan now.
