This morning, I received an acceptance letter from UCI. This came as quite a surprise to me, however, because out of nine prerequisite courses for my major, I had only taken five, one of those in which I received a D/b. Moreover, the four prerequisites I've yet to take include **THREE calculus courses and a computer programming class! o.O

So, what's the deal? I'm glad I got in, but I have no idea how I could possibly "catch up" when I've only successfully completed 44.4% of my prerequisites (this number ought to be 100%).

Also, on a side note, is there an accounting minor or concentration for business econ majors at UCI? I looked at this:

...but it's not entirely clear to me whether an undergrad business econ major can specialize or minor in accounting. How would this compare to UCD, for which I'd need to participate in a "UCB extension program" for accounting?

Wow, congrats on your acceptance. I'm applying to UCI with TAG next year as Business Economics major or probably Business Administartion (does not support with TAG) for Fall 10'.

Pretty weird that you got in even with a D on one of your prereqs but congrats again.
What are your stats?

GPA before fall 2008: 3.67
GPA after fall 2008: 3.37 (got my first-ever D in calculus and first-ever F in speech [yes, speech -_-])

Currently retaking both calculus and speech.

Founding member and webmaster of my college's "Accounting Society". Most of my awards and community service hours were from high school...

Excellent essays (granted, I wrote them each in one night, with no teacher/peer/parent critiquing).

No TAG agreement (was accepted into the honors program, but I canceled the agreement after having to retake calc and speech, and not wanting to take six courses in one semester).

Basically, decent grades, sub-par EC, and above-par essays.

I'm worried about ucsb not letting me take my last prereq this summer (math 3b) and here you are giving me hope that they might not mind. I have a 3.33 gpa and about a 3.8 prerequisite gpa. Just a bunch of w's for math 3b, a in 3a though. I guess I have been accepted and should stop worrying, right?
