Okay, so I just got accepted to UCSB off of appeal. However, I had pretty much resigned myself that I was going to go UCI, because I did not think the USCB appeal would go through.

However, here is my problem. I am really interested in going into the medical field (doctor, etc) and I know that UCI, with its own medical school and everything might be desireable for such a career path, but i just don’t know. After I saw I was rejected from UCSB the first time, I pretty much dismissed the thought of going there, but now that I’m in, I really cannot decide.

So here:

What are the pros/cons of UCSB’s medical appeal compared to UCI?

Is UCSB too much of a party school that it will affect me - or if I’m willing to work hard will I be able to do what I really want to do with my life?

I am familiar with SB, the area, having family nearby. As a freshman, am I allowed to bring my car? I would live on campus, but live a few hours away and might make it home once in a while, so it would be nice to have my car available, not to mention just driving around SB.

and 4. I am just really concerned with this medical thing - I was so resigned to the fact that I would be going to UCI that I thought, “Well, at least they have a good medical program and probably offer good science, etc classes.” Now I’m just back to square one, because UCSB is such a nice area…ahhh I don;t know.

Sorry for the long post…thanks guys.

hey congrats!

I was in the same situation..kind of..i was accepted to UCI, UCSB but not UCSB..i appealed and got in and have decided to go there.

Originally i picked UCSD but i could not start until winter session with no housing and being from NJ that would be hard to move out there with no one around so i jumped at the chance of UCSB.

I visited all 3 school and like the location and appearnce of UCSB the most..it had alot of people on it ..it seemed busy like peole were always doing stuff which i liked alot

I went to UCI on an Explore UCI DAY/Celebrate UCI and the campus was still very quite..not many people around and i asked a tour guide if alot of people go home on the weekends and she said yes 50% or more. To my understanding UCSB is also very good for a medical profession, maybe it does not have its own medical school but u could go to UCI's medical school after u graduate from UCSB. But either choice would be a good one it just depends on what you are looking for. Good Luck

UCI's medical school really does nothing for you as an undergrad. Well, I take that back. Perhaps you can get some type of "*****" job in the medical center, or maybe some research. Simply put, don't base your decision on the fact that UCI has a medical school. In fact, since UCI only accepts 1-5 UCI undergrads into their med program, it could possibly hurt you to go to UCI. All UCs practice this phenomena, as a matter of fact. They simply DO NOT want undergrad alumns in their med programs. I suppose they don't want some little sheltered book worm for their med program.

Anyway, both schools should have adequate research and volunteering opportunities.

Lastly, don't forget that like 75%++++++++++ of freshman pre-meds aren't pre-med by the time they graduate, LOL. It's not a joke and I don't think some people realize how much dedication and hard work it takes.

With that said, pick the school that makes you happy. Because, after all, happy = better grades.

yea...when i was at UCSD they told me they encourage their students to go somewhere else for medical or grad to school to expreience somthing different. So if u realy want UCI med then go to UCSB and go to UCI for med after the undergrad

same!! except i was accepted at davis!!! but ucsb has been my first choice forever!!! also, how many appeals were granted??
