Hey did anyone get in under appeal yet??

Sent the appeal yesterday - Hope I get in. I got rejected from UCSC, UCI, UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCB. – Perfect 7/7 3.4 UW GPA, 3.5 UC GPA, 2060 SAT, 3 APs, – Major computer engineering.

Do you happen to know anyone who was admitted after an appeal? I only know of one from last year - a classmate appealed to Davis and was admitted. That offers hope … but that is the only one I know. Fingers are crossed.

Someone I know who graduated last year appealed to Berkeley and got in for the spring semester if that’s at all reassuring

Thanks for the note - trying to keep positive thoughts. Nothing to do now but wait for UCSC to determine how many are going to accept admission so they will know how many open spots there will be for the wait listed and appealing students…
Will be heading to Cal Poly Pomona this week to check it out, as that is likely where I will land if my appeal isn’t granted.

I heard that UCSC’s appeal rate is 7%. Hopefully they won’t be too harsh on us

@domination
Did you get rejected from all those places or at least waitlisted in a few?

Got rejected every one of them - not even waitlists.

wow I thought you wouldve at least gotten in with your SAT score

I know the feeling all too well. GPA 3.8 SAT 2020…rejected…and disappointed. Should have applied to some schools OOS but really didn’t think I needed too. Lesson learned.

@jayceecoll - Understand your pain, I am so disappointed with the UCs, I have full stack of grants for UCs. I got in 2 OOS engineering schools with no grants or aid.

My son got accepted to UCI and UCSC and rejected from UCLA, Cal, UCSD, Occidental (thought that was an easy in). 1900 SAT an 4.2 (w)GPA. Not many ECs, was in four high schools due to health issues. We’re visiting both schools on Wed. and Thurs, so there will be an opening at least at one of them. I read that UCSC was not letting in as many kids this year, so good luck…

domination - well, congrats on the schools outside of California! Possibly they may have a finance package for you?

MindySue - UCI and UCSC…two very different campuses, what is your son’s major? Hope he finds a spot he is happy with. In my opinion, the Santa Cruz campus is hard to beat. Beautiful redwoods, views of the ocean, great downtown …

A story of hope: My boyfriend is here at UCSC even though he was initially denied, and his appeal was also denied. They extended an offer of admission to him after fewer people SIR’d than expected in the major he applied to. He had already SIR’d to UCM at that point - what a mess!

Liesel - what a roller coaster! I’d guess he was probably mentally committed to UCM after suffering from the rejection and bouncing back the best that he could. Do you recall what month he was offered admission to UCSC? Not sure I have it in me to be on pins and
needles.
Am going to see Cal Poly Pomona this week and hope that I end up feeling like that is a good place for me. Was told that appeal responses would be received the week of April 16 and was assuming that would be when I put the idea/hope of attending UCSC to rest, but that does make sense that the university would need to fill slots if there response is not what they expected.
I’m happy that he was able to attend the school he was really hoping for!

So I met up with the person who was opening the appeal letters and he had the worst attitude in the world. Completely unhelpful and just plain rude. Do you guys think a lot of kids will be enrolling to SC this year?

No clue and No idea. Keeping my fingers crossed. I have no options since I did not get into any UCs

I saw an old thread on UCSC appeals from 2009 with one person saying they won their appeal with a 3.1 GPA and 1730 SAT score (or something like that) and good reasons for why their academics suffered in high school…so I’m hoping UCSC hasn’t become too harsh on the applicants this year.
Along with most people in this thread, I am hoping to get a positive reply from UCSC as I would be going to UC Riverside if my appeal is denied–although I don’t mind going to UC Riverside, just it’s far from home (Norcal). Good luck to everyone!

If my appeal doesn’t pan out, it will be Chico or Cal Poly Pomona for me.

Did anybody else get the email from UC Merced offering admission to those that were rejected from the UC’s they applied to? And if so, what are your thoughts?
