Appeal Admissions??

Good luck guys! Decisions should be coming out next week :S

I sent my appeal the day after I received my rejection. I was rejected from all the UC’s :/

Stats:
GPA: 3.89 unweighted UC GPA: 4.24
Ranked top 9% so I was offered admission to UC Merced (received a full ride)
SAT: 1780 (did not send these)
ACT: 34
Taken courses at my local community college since sophomore

I’m still surprised I did not get in :/

Decisions coming out next week? Is that only for UCSC. Because majority of schools have to wait till after May 1st to see how many students SIRed.

@joeybrody You didn’t get into any UCs?!?!? That is ridiculous

@joeybrody - Did you apply to all of the UCs or only a few? If you applied to only UCLA and Cal for example, and neither adcoms liked your essays then that was probably the reason why you didn’t get in. However, I’m surprised you didn’t get into San Diego, Davis, Irvine or Santa Barbara if you had those stats and applied.

This is like waiting for March 15 all over again … good luck everybody whether you end up at UCSC or somewhere else!

April 16, done. No word today, this will be a long week for me.

^Same. Do you think the longer it takes for the adcom to reply, the less of a chance they are to have accepted your appeal? :/

I honestly think Santa Cruz is just being lazy

I just can’t quite figure out exactly how all of this works … the waitlist students had to let UCSC know by yesterday whether or not they wanted to remain on the waitlist. Using an example of 1000 students opting off the waitlist, that leaves approx 1700 students remaining on the waitlist. If the admitted students don’t need to reply until May 1, really how does UCSC know this week how many spots will really be available for the waitlisted students and then the appealing students?
This is nerve wracking…sigh.

No I didn’t get into any UC’s
I applied to all of them except UC Merced and Riverside.
I’m surprised because I honestly thought I was going to get into most of them, but that goes to show that not everyone is safe.

I had a UC alumni help me write my personal statement and also 2 Stanford students. And still no luck:/

I don’t think waitlisted students really have a chance either because UCSC said they didn’t have to choose students from the waitlist for the past two years, but who knows? Admissions this year were completely random, anything is possible at this point

I think it’s important to remember that in the past UCSC also offered admission to students within the first week of May who were denied both their admission and their appeal. UCSC has underestimated the number of students who want to go to their school in the past, and who knows–maybe they will do the same this year? (even though they did have a record amount of people who applied this year). I think we should all think positively  And hopefully UCSC will let us know by tomorrow (as I really don’t want to wait until the end of this week -______-).
@Joeybrody-I am sorry to hear that :/. I met a girl who applied to a bunch of UCs but was told she didn’t meet the minimum requirements (I don’t know which exactly) but in fact did, contacted the adcoms to tell them that even her UC app said she did, and got super slow responses to the point of where she SIRd to a private college because she didn’t want to go through the hassle and fear of not being able to get into her choice of UC. From your stats and what you’ve told us so far, I am just as surprised as you are that you were denied admission to the middle-tier UCs. Hopefully UCSC will work out for you in the end!
@Tfence-I agree with you–admissions this year were random and slightly mad (from people who I know who didn’t get into the UCs they wanted to); I also agree that anything is possible, so again good luck to everyone!

I called Santa Cruz guys, and they said they should communicate responses by thursday, or later in the week but definitely not earlier. So I guess another day of waiting :/

Lol I was planning on calling them on Friday if I didn’t get a response by Thursday night, but I guess now I know when to expect their response. Thanks for letting us know Tfence!
I have seen threads from three years back that have been on 4/16 talking about UCSC’s appeal decision being released and I can’t believe UCSC is going to be late this year. I was hoping they would respond quickly like the past few years but I guess I’ll just have to wait it out–this week has been taking forever!

No problem! I know people in this thread are just as anxious as I am! In the previous threads, did it seem like a lot of people got in through appeal?

Yes. From the one thread that had the most appeals/updates on appeals that I saw (I was searching for the thread recently, but I haven’t had time to scroll through pages and pages of CollegeConfidential search results to find the thread yet), most of the people got in through their appeal. The first page was filled with people saying they appealed while the third or fourth page was filled with happy words haha. I’m a bit hesitant to be too optimistic about my UCSC appeal, but we’ll see. At least I have a back-up school that I like, and am ready to go to :)

Another day, more waiting…sigh.

I have similar stats to @joeybrody.

Quick review: a bit higher SAT (1860) and lower ACT (27), submitted both. Had help w a Cal and UCSB student w my essays (my sisters). EIC for my Newspaper… Did a lot of extra currics… A LOT… Several internships, working at a financial planning firm, gov’t campaigns, etc.

Applied to all UC but Merced, riverside, and Davis. +a few CSUs. Rejected from all but Waitlisted at SB & Csulb. I at least expected acceptance from Csus, sb, and irvine):

So depressed. Literally everyone expects that I’ve gotten into a ton of places (not that i need to impress anyone or anything… But i SERIOUSLY worked my butt off in hs. Lol voted workaholic in yearbook…)

Appealed to UCs and some states. Does any one know if the whole waitlist issue from UCSB last year is true… Did absolutely no one get off the list?

At this point I may be looking at a cc, which isn’t bad, but I just expected so much more after hs/:

I just came home and found my appeal had worked, and have been granted admission for the Fall Quarter at UC Santa Cruz. I was pretty stressed about it, but I guess luck was on my side. Good luck to anyone else that filed an appeal, I hope you get good news like I did.
