APPEAL Chances??

Hi, I'm writing this for my younger brother. He is a senior in highschool, and he has just sent out his apps. However, we don't think he'll be an auto admit anywhere because of his SAT score. Here are the details:

3.3 UC Weighted
1620 SAT
In State

His question is, can he retake the SAT during March and receive the scores in time to appeal? The schools he would like to appeal to are UCSB, UCI, and UCD. He's aiming for an 1880-ish.

His senior grades 1st semester will be:
Visual Imagery - A
Yearbook 2 - A+
AP Environmental Sci - A
Econ - A *also in AP Gov but first semester is Econ
Applied Calculus - A
English 4 (ERWC) - A+

Thank you, any helpful responses/constructive criticism are appreciated.

bump, please: any response is great.

Also what are the chances for UCI, UCD, and UCSB with those senior year grades? And the 1880 SAT score? Scale 1-10 (10 meaning over qualified) (7 meaning match) (1 meaning no hope).

How much of an UCGPA increase would those grades put him at?

From what I know, UC GPA calculation is only 10th and 11th grade. But it would be a 3.48 to answer your question.

I think it is best to appeal with both UCGPA and SAT score increases at hand…

Wait until scores are in hand.

All those schools are, as of now, low reaches. GPA is too low.
With a 1880 SAT score, they become high matches.

Meanwhile, all three schools are not the most difficult to appeal to, where you can send in senior year grades to show that you have improved.

I would recommend that he find a couple of safeties where he is pretty sure he will be admitted and send those apps in as well. If the appeals don’t work, he will have nowhere to go.

Would waiting until March to take the SAT be too late to appeal, by the time the scores come? Check with the schools to find out their standards for appeals, if they have any specific ones.
