Denied from CPP for computer engineering. This was all it said,
“Based on information you supplied on your application, you have met the eligibility requirements for admission to the California State University. However, because our campus is impacted for first-time freshmen and upper division transfer students for certain majors, we are unable to accommodate your application. We suggest that you to check the CSU Application for additional CSU campuses still accepting applications.”
Can anyone please please give me advice on how to appeal without being given a specific reason as to why I was denied admission. I appealed CSULB because their reason was that i hadn’t taken all the physics courses for my major by Spring 2017. I explained why I hadn’t and that i would complete the sequence by Summer 2017.
Idk what to say to CPP… if i was qualified and denied what new info can I use? Can I use a recommendation letter from a teacher to help my case for CPP? Please help me guys, this was my dream school and I’ve worked my ass off to have my major prep courses done and have a decent GPA even after all the bull Ive had to deal with in life other than school…
Appeals only work if you have new and compelling information. Unfortunately, CPP obviously has many very qualified applicants and cannot accept them all so unless you can explain that circumstances in your life may have contributed to a lower than average GPA etc… you should move on. What other schools were you accepted to? What is your transfer GPA?
@Gumbymom I was accepted to SDSU, transfer gpa 3.43, major gpa 3.7. The thing is that I spoke to a CPP pre admissions counselor a year ago. He told me to better my chances I needed to go back to a university I attended to retake class I received 3 FWs to raise my GPA, take more calculis, and one more semester of physics. I did all of that and worst of all I eneded up paying 13K when i went back to the private university where i retook my classes. I WASTED money on trying to get into this school, that alone isn’t very fair. During this admission process CPP lost 2 of my transcripts and wanted to withdraw my application early march, but i asked them to physically go look for them and they had found them while I was on the phone with them. They never got to actually review my application until April 1st, when i finally recieved an email from an admissions coordinator that they had finally been able to piece my file together with all the lost transcripts. Doesnt timing of viewing my application affect me getting one of the limited spots???
There are only so many seats in a university and there are just too many applicants. You have to move on to the next school.
It’s not personal, it’s business.
The Cal Poly are very popular with in-state and OOS students. People like the price. It has a good record for computer engineering, so, they were inundated with applications.
What would you say in your appeal that is new and compelling? LOR’s are extra fluff.
I know you asked a question on the SDSU forum in regards to those private university classes. Maybe they did not articulate to CPP’s required courses. SDSU is a very good school so I would highly consider attending there.
If you want to appeal, you will still have to SIR to another school.
You could explain the loss of the transcripts and that you were encouraged by a CPP admission’s counselor to retake those courses. If you have names/documentation, it might help your case.
While you have every right to be frustrated - it really won’t help much. I would submit a SIR at SDSU and get on with my life. It won’t be the last time someone who should know better gives you bad advice. Though it sounds like you were told - taking specific classes would improve your chances of admission - How do you know they didn’t? I bet the re-taken classes got your GPA up enough to get you into SDSU.
Appeal if you think it is worth it - just understand the odds are pretty long and take action to secure your seat elsewhere…
SDSU is an excellent school - I encourage you to put this experience behind you and make the most of the opportunity at hand.
My transfer GPA is 3.8 with a 4.0 major GPA, but I was waitlisted to a non-impacted business major at CPP… though my situation is quite different. I only applied to one other university, CSUF, but I’m still waiting for a decision. I sympathize with you and encourage you to send off that letter of appeal ASAP with the information you so passionately shared with us above. You never know. But I agree with @NCalRent and @gumbymom that you should SIR with SDSU just before the deadline. Don’t risk a chance of missing out on an education from a top-ranked Cal State.
In my opinion, I think you should give SDSU a shot. It’s a great school academically and a great environment. In my honest opinion, it may be a little better than CPP (both are great schools though)
