NYU has offered me a generous amount of financial aid. Around $53,000. Can I appeal this decision? Even with this aid/scholarship, my family will find it real hard to send me.

If there is a way to negotiate, how do I go about it? I really have no idea.

Yeah I was admitted and got NOTHING for aid. And there’s nothing for me to do to appeal cuz the decision is made. I have no options - no work study (I’m international), no government loans, no nothing.

Hope your situation works out. Sorry I’m not of any help…

I’m considering appealing as well, it would be nice to get another 5-10k but something’s telling me that they won’t be willing

I got around 10k, with 55k in loans. is that even possible?
Sorry I can’t help I’m commenting so I can see when anyone answers lol because I definitely need to appeal

@yalesoon same here. 55000 in loans is ridiculous

Yeah, 55k take forever to pay off. :o

Again, is there any official way to appeal? Like in UCLA, there’s this form, “Request for Reduction” or something on those lines which halves your total COA.

NYU is notorious for bad financial aid packages. Be thankful you got over 50k. They won’t budge.

@Bouncer @Kaybee3 - 53K is freaking amazing. I’ve seen a lot of really large aid packages posted here this week - I don’t think those are “bad financial aid” packages at ALL. Mine isn’t close to 53K but it’s way more than I expected and I’m incredibly grateful. I don’t see where having to take out $10 - $15K in loans per year to get a NYU degree is not worth the ROI - my flagship state school costs $25K a year and won’t provide nearly the ROI. Graduating with $40K debt total after 4 years isn’t unreasonable these days. I guess it all depends on what your other offers are.

I guess it’s all perspective, but after reading all the comments leading up to decision day about “horrible” NYU financial aid packages, I think that’s a undeserved and very general impression. I was very surprised to see so many people accepted to NYU getting 60% or more of costs covered by scholarships here, me included. Pretty sure any of the people on the waiting list would jump at the chance to have a “bad” financial aid package of $53K to NYU.
