appeal for friend

First of all, I'd like to say hi to all the future Bruins I'll be joining year.

One of my friends is going to try to appeal UCLA soon, and we're wondering what should be said in the letter. Another friend of mine told me that he saw a post a few months back about someone using a Berkeley acceptance to appeal an LA rejection. My friend had this same thing happen - accepted to UCI, UCSD, UCB, but not LA. CC seems to prune posts after a certain date and I can't locate that post, so I'm looking for advice. How should my friend frame his argument? If anybody is familiar with that post, what did that guy say in his appeal? Also, I know a few of you are thinking "just go to Berkeley" but he's hoping to do film, and UCLA is one of his ideal schools for that. Thanks for your input.

i wouldn't use a berkeley acceptance to appeal. use new information that your friend did not include in his application already.

Dont send in your Berkeley acceptance. You need SIGNIFICANT evidence.

UCLA is very hard to appeal, as hard as Berkeley. If I were him, i'd give up.

^ i like that optimism!

Don't use the Berkeley acceptance as a basis for appeal, it just shows to the committee that you don't respect their admission decisions. Rather, find new information, and in seriousness, if you don't have any, you don't really have a shot. Good luck though, I'm appealing too. The UC adcoms sure enjoy making mistakes. =)

I guarantee you that using Berkeley will not get you in as an appeal. IF you tell them that you got into Berkeley, then they will say "Go to Berkeley then." They are two different schools and the decision of one has no affect on the other. Tell your friend not to waste time appealing...unless he has a 4.5 and a 1600, he has no chance whatsoever. Sorry to be harsh but being rejected once is bad enough...don't let your friend go through it again.

uclaclassof2009:

ucla all the way!!! can't wait to go there ... i got in.... HOWEVER. ... i know a few people who didn't get in last year to berkeley or la.... they appealed both ... 2/3 got berkeley and same with ucla ... the guy who got both went to berkeley ... but ANYWAY! they didnt hav 1600 and 4.5 ... in fact their gpa's were 4-4.2 and sat scores 1300-1450 .... but they did hav significant new information ... like misreported grades for one of them .... so APPEAL! ... unless u hav no new info ... they dont appeal ... lol .... but yeah ... dont get ur hopes up though ...

Unless there's something groundbreaking, your friend doesn't have much of an argument. Getting into Berkeley for Theatre isn't nearly the same as getting into UCLA's School of Theatre, Film and Television...

even though your chances of a successful appeal are extremely low (around 7%)... appeal anyway if u want... it can't hurt you

Yeah, get your $55 worth and appeal.

wow 7% appeal rate. you must mean 1.7%
