Hello,
I've been accepted to Tulane and received the $22K Distinguished Scholars Award and I was hoping for admission into the Honors Program, unfortunately I haven't heard anything about it from Tulane. Do you think it would be helpful to contact the Honors Program and ask for a reconsideration for the honors program? I know that freshmen can apply for the Honors Program after one semester, but the reason I wanted to be in the Honors Program was to be able to apply to Tulane's TAP-TP program for pre-med students, which makes its decisions by November during the first semester. Do you think if I show an interest in medicine and Tulane's honors program as well the TAP-TP program that I will have a shot to be accepted into it?

I can’t say much about the TAP-TP program except I know it is very competitive.

But I can tell you only a few of the DSA winners are in the honors program from the start. It can’t hurt to ask Dr. Luongo if he will consider placing you in, but I would wait until after May 1. Then he will know who of the students that were invited to the HP are actually coming. They do have target numbers they would like to hit, and while they wouldn’t take unqualified students just to meet some quota, there is obviously some leeway at the edges, where you may well be.

my son received the presidential scholarship and wasn’t offered the honors program which makes little sense to me. Do they sometimes offer it after May 1. I wonder who gets invited since he was honors to Boston College and had been admitted to Wash U and Rice. Guess I am a bit confuse.

He is in the Honors Program. It is automatic if you receive the Presidential of $25,000. There seems to have been a glitch this year where most of the Presidential winners got told, but some did not. But Dr. Luongo himself confirmed that Presidential winners are in the program, and I think Jeff from admissions said the same to another inquiring student.

I would just advise talking to either Dr. Luongo or your admissions counselor to make sure he is in the system correctly.

Didn’t someone post that they were told at Destination Tulane that they had more incoming freshmen in the Honors program than they had anticipated?? If so, it might be hard to get in right now if it is already overenrolled…
