Appeal for UCLA

Hey boou, how about we trade. I'll give you UCLA for Cal. :) Anyway, I'm senidng two rec's, my new transcript with 7th semester grades cause I'm in the top 4% of my class of over 900, and some new EC's that I have. Hope it'll work and good luck to all of you that are appealing!

im planning on appealing, so what do we do about SIRs? Like what if the colleges dont respond to the appeals before May 1st? should we just send our SIR to a diff. school? ? ? ?

Ok I need someone who has been in this situation before or knows about this situation to personally contact me. If you know about this, please respond- thanks a lot everyone. I didn't get into UCLA, but I sent a tape to the drumline teacher and I made it. In a nutshell, I made the UCLA drumline/band, but I didn't get into the school. So, I'm sending a band appeal through the band director. He said he can't guarantee my admission, but it will enhance my chances. What are my chances of getting in/not getting in, since I already made the band? Thanks a lot to anyone who knwos about this, thanks

what i plan to do is turn in my sir to a different school, if the appeal happens to work then i will contact the school and cancel my spot there. i believe this is possible although you may lose money when you send your intent to register. im not entirely sure about the whole deal so some clarification would be appreciated!

go for San Diego or Berkeley

i don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but at ucla the rate of admissions for appeals is 2%. thought that might be of some help. I found that out when talking with an admissions counselor last year at ucla. he said that 2% is usually when SAT or HS Transcripts aren't sent ontime at the fault of the agency responsible or when incorrect data is displayed. Also, one of my friends appealed and got into usc, stating an improvement in his overall grades, ending senior year with a high gpa. i hope this helps.

There is no harm in making an attempt, especially, when you have something significant to highlight. However, it is true that the percentage of people who get admitted, post appeal, is very low. Who knows, you could be one amongst the lucky ones! In my opinion, Berkeley and UCLA are very good schools. Attending either of them, in my opinion, is a great achievement.

Wish you good luck.

yes but if you have no real reason to appeal then dont. getting slightly better grades third quarter doesnt count. it's when a gross mishap affected your chance of admission, like a previous poster said earlier, say your guidance counselor doesnt send in your transcript on time or something.

Hi! I am going through the exact same situation. I am currently appealing a college decision, University of South Florida. The process will take a month, I'm calling the dean of Admissions and requesting a quicker response as its imperative to my decision. I could send you my copy of the appeal so you can get an idea. State any new things that have changed after you applied or weren't evident on your application. State all your extracurriculars. Get teachers to write letters of recommendation. Send an essay to show examples of your writing, or an updated transcripts. let me know if you need help or want the copy of my letter.

I think I have a fair case for appeal, does anyone else want to weigh in? Since I turned in my application, I have completed 9 credits of UC transferable courses at my local community college, currently enrolled in 9 more, completed high school early, held a 30+ hour job for over three months, and was forced to move in December due to a death of a parent(didnt happen in december, but the moving was caused by it). Not only that, but my "surrogate family", the ones I get most of my support from, have decided to move near the area where I go to college. Does anyone have any idea if these factors would make a big difference?

i think your case is pretty good. thats just my opinion though, i really dont know much about appeals. better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

sorry for the double post, but ive just finished my letter of appeal and boy does that feel good. now i can relax knowing that i did everything in my power to get into my school of choice. its funny though, now that ive realistically researched berkeley and other schools, they all seem like a really good opportunities. It'll be a tough decision between Berkeley and UCLA if the appeal works. thanks for all the support and help from everyone here. wish you all good luck with your college life and stuff! wOoOOT!! IM GOIN TO COLLEGE!! (dunno which one though =P) hahaha

I just recieved yesterday a full 4yr scholarship specifcally to UCLA. I believe that counts for a VERY strong case. I'm sending out the appeal letter tonight

well it didnt work! but hell atleast i have no regrets ^_^ hope all the rest of you had better luck than i did. as for my future, im headed off to UC berkeley! thanks everyone for your help, and for those who said it was a waste of time, congrats you were right, but in the words of Theodore Roosevelt "Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." best wishes to you all, and good luck!

I'm sorry boo, that was really fast for huh? I mailed mine on wednesday, they go it saturday and now on monday my status is still not updated

i'm in the same place as you too, most likely going to cal if this doesn't go through, although there's still a chance that i might pick cal over la, especially if i find great housing
