Hi I have a EFC of 0..parents separated..household size 3..mom very sick..my financial aid package Is not sufficient..how do I word appeal letter..help please..perhaps a sample letter to those hat may have wrote one out earlier?? Please help me thanks very much.

What school and how much were you gapped? If it is a significant number (more than a couple thousand bucks) it’s not likely that you will be given enough more money to make up the difference. You need to look at more affordable schools.

Did you fill out a CSS Profile? What school is this and how much financial aid did you get and what is the total cost of attendance?

What school is this?

Does it promise to meet need?

how much does the school cost (include COA breakdown)

What is in your FA package?

What are your stats?

Will your dad contribute?

Did you apply to any affordable schools?

Keep in mind:

Only a small number of schools meet 100% demonstrated need

Only a small number of schools (~300) require the CSS profile in giving out their own institutional aid

Your not getting enough money is a relative term. We can’t help you if we don’t know what you are dealing with. There could be a $1000 gap (which may seem the same as $100,000 if you have absolutely no way of coming up with the money)

The college is very much aware of your zero EFC and chose to handle it the way they did. Yes, you can certainly appeal, and I hope you get what you need from the appeal. I also hope that you look for some other more viable alternatives just in case you do not get what you need. Depending on the school, the amount discrepancy, your personal situation, the appeal can go any way, but getting a significant amount more is unlikely unless a mistake was made. You do need to deal with the possibility that this is not the school for you so that you have more alternatives.
