So I'm writing an appeal letter to both UCI and UCSD but I have NOOO idea what to put in it? Is it true they don't care about extra-curriculars at this point?

Do a search on "appeal". It seems there's a rash of UCI appeals postings recently. Unless there's a fundamental error in your paperwork, I wouldn't be holding my breath however.

Best of luck to you wherever you choose to matriculate

Hey,

I just submitted me appeal to UW. Now each school is most likely different but I can reiterate what UW has on their site for what to include and pointers.

1) They've already read your application. The committee that reads this appeal is the one that initally denied you.
2.) Don't mention items in your appeal already stated in your application UNLESS there has been further development
3.) A change in scores. EX: I took the Dec. SAT's but submitted my application Nov. 28. Mention that the new scores reflect your work ethic, and why the new scores should possibly get you admitted.
4.) Mention the rigour of your senior year (hopefully it isn't just a lazy senior year class schedule)
5.) What will/do you add to the school's environment/community?
6.) Pound it in why you fit with that school. Not just because it's a dream school but why, what about it makes it a perfect fit for you. And what about you makes you a perfect candidate for it.
7.) Get teacher and/or employers to write recommendation letters to attach.
8.) If you got rejected because of [a] low grade(s) then explain (if you didn't initally) why your grades were what they were. But again do not whine.
9.) Mention any further acheievements that you have gotten and make sure that they're significant.
10.) Watch out and make sure that you aren't submitting another essay. This is a letter not a prompt, just remember that :)

I really hope this helps! Best of luck to you =)

Mathewlr is right on track. Well said.

thank you!

UC appeals are only considered based on new information that you did not have when you submitted your initial application. If your GPA has gone up, your class standing has improved, or you have won some kind of award, put that in your letter of appeal. Start your letter with a paragraph that says you strongly believe you'll be a success at the school and that you are respectfully asking for reconsideration of your application based on some new information. Maybe you left something out of your application the first time? Be careful because when the school reviews the letter of appeal, they are more inclined to follow up with a request for documentation of things like extracurricular activities, awards, club presidencies, etc. Good luck. Remember, when you're a junior, if you've kept your grades up, you can transfer into any UC you want.

In my letter of appeal, is it possible to say that I want to change my major? I have a huge feeling that my choice of major is why I got rejected.

Also, should the letter be in some sort of format, like personal or business format?

that's what a lot of people told me...that majoring in biology was the reason i got rejected to both.

To JBK: What do you mean by "Remember if you keep your grades up junior year, you can transfer to any UC?" Do you mean, if we go to a CC or if we go to another UC?
