hey, guys i was rejected today and im really down...i thought that i could make it. please dont ask what my stats are and ECs and other stuff that i do. i just want to know how to appeal, and what process i need to go through. thank you.

Start your appeal process tonight. There is info on their website telling you what to do. Don't forget a letter of recommendation from your favorite teacher- that's very important.

unlimitedx...did u appeal? and if i turn in my stuff early, will i hear back earlier? thanks so much

I did not need to appeal, though being on the forum for so long and what my friends had done to get admitted through appeal, a letter of recommendation is pivotal to your appeal. You will hear back earlier if you send it in earlier, though it will still take several weeks for a response.

Does it need to be a letter of recommendation specifically for the appeal? Or will any other fabulous recommendation letter do?

"Additional extracurricular activities or fall term grades are not a basis for a reversal of the decision since decisions are based on academic information that was available at the time of application."

This makes it very hard to even have grounds to appeal...sigh.

What about new SAT scores (from January)?

Can someone post the link where it mentions the criteria for a good appeal. Thanks.

anyone have suggestions or things they want to share about ppl that got admitted thru appeal. things that will help put our second chances into perspective (ie: u must have a strong rec or else chances of appeal are slim)? any help is appreciated for all of us...btw appeal link is http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/appealsfr.htm

i really have my heart set on ucla, it is my first choice

Just another tip, you'd be better off asking your counselor for suggestions since they have helped students go through this process for years/decades.

anyone know when appeals are usually anounced? assuming i send it in by april 1st...and i hear that improvement in grades dont count..but should i send an updated transcript anyway? i changed one of my class into honors and added another class

I know someone who appealed to UCLA after receiving A's in five AP classes that was then admitted. So senior year grades def. can have an impact in the appeals process, but they likely have to be exceptional (and above where you were performing thus far - i.e. if you were rejected with all A's, a few more A's isn't going to change anything).

That's encouraging! My grades have always hovered around 3.5 ish and 1st semester this year I got all As. I'll definitely try appealing, thanks!

My friend appealed and won her case with her good grades as well. Her first semester senior year GPA was a 4.0, the first time she ever earned a 4.0 in a semester in high school.

does anyone know the stats of those admitted from appeals last year? and what kind of stuff in a letter of rec would help a lot? also..do we usually hear back by may1st. im sending it by end of march, so im not sure when ill hear back.

Are there any repercussions if you appeal, get admitted, but then don't accept (besides looking like a jerk)?

^ Nope. They won't really care.
