If you are a denied applicant, how do you appeal you admissions decision? Also is there a way to take summer classes at Stony Brook?
Your best bet is to contact the admissions office, but your chances are very, very low because they will likely look to waitlisted students and even the majority of them will not be admitted. I think your best bet is to go somewhere else, do well and then try to transfer in for the spring semester. Sorry about your denial and best of luck!
You can definitely email us at enroll@stonybrook.edu, but I don’t anticipate our Dean of Admissions doing much by way of reconsiderations this year. Our policy has always been not to look at any reconsideration requests until over the summer, and even then, it’s only if we have space available.
If you’re looking to transfer – be advised that if you were denied admission as a freshman, you will need to complete one full year (24 credits, two semesters) before applying as a transfer student. Spring won’t be enough.

@sbuadmissions Hey Chris, what if we bring credits (say 15 from high school), then can we just attend the fall semester and transfer for the spring?
No, it needs to be two full-time post-secondary semesters.
Chris
@sbuadmissions ok thanks. Also, do you have any idea of how many acceptances are left?
@sbuadmissions hi Chris, is it possible to appeal a honors college/ university scholar decision?
@StillWaitingHere - No, there isn’t. Students can apply in to the HC after their freshman year (HC will take a small number of second year students), but it’s not always beneficial for students to jump into the HC after a year. The major curricular benefit of the HC is that you’re taking the HON-designated courses, which fulfill core requirements. Students who have already completed a year have already knocked out a bunch of core requirements, which means the HON courses don’t help you as much, AND you have to double up on them to catch up.
So it’s doable, but I advise students to really look at the full academic picture. Graduating on time is way more important than the HC designation.

I actually appealed to honors college after being initially rejected, and just got my admission into ha today!
How did you manage to appeal? I’m hoping to get into the university scholars.
@Stillwaitinghere I just sent them an email, and they responded quite promptly saying the committee will review appeal decisions late April. I got my offer through email on April 22nd. You should definitely try with your stats!
