Hey guys. Bowdoin has been my dream school and a perfect fit for me, the campus, town, adademic programs, and the general vibe of the students seemed to be right up my alley.
Today I was rejected, but I just can’t stop thinking about how perfect Bowdoin was for me.
I assume not, but is there anyway I’m able to appeal my rejection or anything?
Unless there was a flat out mistake in your application (ex. the guidance counselor sent the wrong transcript or something like that) there is no value in appealing an admissions decision. Focus on your acceptances – it is time to love a college that loved you. There is more than one college where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
I agree that you likely can’t appeal. But, perhaps, you email an admissions counselor and ask if you can speak about a plan moving forward where you could transfer. Or, if this is your one and only dream, would they admit for spring?
All roads lead to Rome. Find the path that works best for you and your dreams.
We toured Bowdoin a couple of times, and it is an attractive school. However, there are quite a few other very good small schools. Also, at least looking at the little scatter plots that we saw of students who did or didn’t get into Bowdoin, acceptance there seemed even more random and unpredictable than at other highly ranked schools.
Have you been accepted to some other schools?
I agree with others that I don’t see why an appeal would work unless there was some sort of glaring error in your application.
Well my AP Calculus grade (I got an A and plan to major in physics so it is important) wasn’t posted until about a month after mid year reports since my administration didn’t get around to it, so it was only sent to my colleges this Wednesday, just several days before the Bowdoin decisions were released.
@plantmap have your counselor send your grade to their Adcom via email tomorrow. And then you can follow up. Express interest, ask about waitlist for fall 2019 and spring 2020. And transfer possibilities.
I would not “appeal”, but rather say you have new information re a grade in the subject of which you plan to major. You have many options.
Meanwhile, meet with your GC and come up with plans BCD&E.
Honestly, i would move on from Bowdoin. This is why I hate the idea of people setting up one school (especially a hyper-competitive one) as a “dream college” – it can be hard to move on when things don’t work out as hoped. The fact is for a student who loves Bowdoin, there are many many other outstanding schools where he/she should should be able to have a fulfilling and wonderful 4 years and get where he/she wants to go in life. It is fine to be sad for a day or two, but then it is time to move forward and to open your eyes to the opportunities out there.
As an aside, I think it is a horrible idea to start one college with the intent of transferring to Bowdoin. This will stand in the way of your making meaningful friendships, developing relationships with professors, and getting involved on campus. Then if your transfer doesn’t work out as planned you will be really stuck. I’d go to the college you enrolled in with the intent of staying all four years.
I can’t believe that one mid-term grade in one class would be the difference between an acceptance or rejection. Again, I suggest you move on and focus on your acceptances.
