Alright so I got my decision yesterday and was pretty bummed out to find out I was rejected, but what caught my eye was that it said that I don’t qualify financially for the EOP program at Stony Brook??? This cannot be right… like at all. The guideline for a family a 6 is $60,000 and my family makes no where near that. Only my father works and his income is in the 30,000s. I was wondering if there was anyway to talk to them and if they would even listen to me.
The email said that my application went in under regular decision and that is what I definitely did not want and my application should not be there. Also, if I do get my application looked at again would I be able to send in a mid year report to Stony Brook? I feel that I may have been rejected through regular( even though being in the EOP pool would have greatly helped me) was my rank and GPA.
At the beginning of senior year I had a weighted 86.11 and was top 25%( like 25.6 or something) but now I had taken the most weighted classes I could possibly take and bodied them ;D. I ended up having a weighted senior year average over 100 and my gpa went up to 90.14 and my rank is now 12.3%. My SAT score is also an 1130 which is only a little higher than the EOP stats for Stony but regardless they had said I was eligible academically to Stony Brook. Anyways, sorry for the long message but I think I might send them an email through enroll@stonybrook.edu and hope they take me plea.
Did stony brook send you an email about sending documents necessary for eop?(I didn’t get one) I also applied to eop stony but I got rejected and I don’t think I was in the eop pool even though I am eligible. How do you know which pool you are in I don’t see anything about it in my rejection letter.
Yea, you should get an email. I got an email around January saying that I am academically eligible and to send my taxes to check my economic eligibility.
Oh that sucks for me. I didn’t get the email even though I put yes for eop on commonapp and I just emailed them 2 days ago about the eop problem but they said “we cannot any eop reconsideration requests at this time”. I think is unfair because I was never even got an email about eop from stony. Should I email them back again ? And if I should what do I say without putting the blame on stony and sounding rude.
What did stony say to your email about you being financially qualified ?
They never said I was financially qualified (even though I should be). They just said I wasn’t for some reason and rejected me through regular admissions. They said I was academically qualified a while back and that I should send in some tax information to determine my economic eligibility. And to be honest I think it might be a little too late
EOP admission is very, very selective. They get a few thousand applicants for what amounts to about 200 seats. The academic qualification comes first; if you’re in that range, THEN we ask for the financials. Not everyone gets past the academic review, unfortunately.

What about in my case where they had said I am academically qualified and my family makes less than the income guidelines by a lot but for some reason they had said that I am not eligible financially based on the income guidelines?? The income guidelines for EOP is over $15,000 more than what my family makes so I’m not sure why they said I don’t qualify. I’m hoping that they can reconsider my application or at least tell me how I don’t qualify because I believe that there must be some mistake.
Can’t say in this kind of forum – you can email Financial Aid and they’ll take a look at it.
