I called and the reason I wasn't admitted to the UC was I am taking my first UC eligible transfer math class during the spring. The lady said they sometimes don't admit when that happens, regardless she said to appeal and tell that you are doing well in the class and that you will pass. Besides this what else should I put in there? I figure I need like a page or so.

I’d guess just generic platitudes about how UCSC’s been a dream of yours, you’re confident that it’ll be a fantastic experience, et cetera.

I figured I’d put stuff like that in there but I just feel like I need another reason to appeal. Maybe I’m over thinking it.

If they just rejected you based on the math requirement, well, I’d assume it wouldn’t take too strong of an appeal to get you in it. After all, that suggests you were on the very brink of getting in originally.

Aside from the obvious things, nothing really comes to my mind as to what would be good to include in an appeal for this case. What’s your major and what were your stats, if I may ask?

I withdrew from a precal class in fall…retaking it this semester with a B.
I am doing 25 units this semester. Not sure if this is another problem.

maybe say that you were under the impression that all you had to do was complete IGETC by spring? I dont know if ignorance is going to be a valid excuse but might as well try

@ Hadrian: any of other ideas?

What Mantis said. I think your appeal will work.

Ah holy ****, I’m taking my UC eligible math right now too. fuuuuuuuu ck. And I’m aiming for UCLA…

To the OP: I think yours should work - UCSC from what I hear is lenient with appeals.

thanks for the help guys.

I’m looking to appeal as well.

igetc will be complete after this term and pre-recs are done.

wow I think thats really unfair of them. They never said a thing about finishing this course before spring of transfer…

How is it unfair? It’s stated on the transfer page that saving those courses until the spring before transfer requires adequate preparation.

https://admissions.sa.ucsc.edu/apply/transfer_guide.cfm

Since the OP dropped the course from the fall, that seems to suggest inadequate preparation (was not ready to take the course). Particularly if there were no other math courses leading up to the class. If the roadwork is there, however, it should not be a huge issue. This is not meant as a slight, simply an observation.

Also, add to this that the TAG agreements typically require English and math to have already been completed to be eligible to sign. One would think it would be common sense this is a huge clue those classes should be completed as soon as possible whether signing a TAG or not.

OP: If possible, get a letter of recommendation from your math professor stating how you are doing in the class. Include this with your appeal and it might help your chances :). While a speech or English professor would potentially give you a more eloquent statement, your math professor will be able to assure UCSC that you are doing well.

Good luck!

If the admissions office gave you the reason for not accepting you and pretty much outlined what you need to do to appeal, then follow the information given to you closely. There is no need to fill your appeal with fluff.

Remember that appeal deadline is April 30 and you need follow the appeal guidelines at https://admissions.sa.ucsc.edu/apply/fall10_UDtransferNotAdmitted.cfm#appeal to ensure your appeal is complete.

Pscholler… So you just called admissions and asked why you weren’t accepted?

@Jones: Yes thats exactly what I did.

I actually took the pre-req math class for pre-cal and got an A(too bad its not transferable). I had to withdraw from the Precal class with a W because I got caught with work and school. I’m not quite that great at math.
Thats a good idea about the math class teacher letter of rec. I already had asked another teacher so I’ll probably pick the better of the two. But I would imagine they would want the specific teacher to assure them.
I’m still waiting to hear from UCSB, I wonder if I will run into the same problem with the math class…

i went to UCSC…its no that great haha.
