Appeal?!

So I have recently been rejected from UCLA but It’s my #1 school therefor I want to appeal. These are some things that I could elaborate on & my stats are also included . I heard UCLA doesn’t care about recent awards or increase in academic excellence so here is what I have left. Do I have a chance ?

  • Elaborate on my hook ( for the last 7 years I volunteered with an association helping with the advancement of villages in Africa. In my personal statement I described myself more as a member while I was really a leader. I didn't elaborate on my visits to Nigeria, donating clothes, helping unfortunate children to read and write etc. I could make it sound amazing to be honest)
  • My mother is very ill and has recently backslided from her recovery. I didn't elaborate on how I drove to hospitals and studied in rehabs and Emergency rooms at the age of 15-17 years old. This took a big toll on my academic excellence but I still challenged myself with the classes I took. (7 APS) also I have been accepted to universities far from home and being in LA I would benefit because I would be closer to home to keep in touch with my mother. (Due to my fathers nonchalant attitude , I could elaborate on how they are considering divorce hence why I should be close to my mother because she has no other child or family member in the US but me)

4.00 GPA WEIGHTED

HOOK!
For about 7 years I worked with an organization promoting advancement in a village in Africa! Fundraising, Annual Events, Visits to Nigeria! I did it all!

I really applaud what you did for community services and sorry about your circumstances. However your GPA and SAT scores are under the mark as for what UCLA looks for. You can scroll through the decisions thread and see how competitive it was for admissions. There are kids with 4.3 weighted GPA with 1950 SAT scores who did not get in. I would advise to go to a cc and transfer. That would be the best.

I would say to try. I think if you elaborated on these things in your personal statements, you would have had a much higher chance of being admitted. Also, you do not have bad stats. Dont be deterred because your GPA/SAT may be a bit lower than average; I was admitted with a 3.23 UC GPA and 2040 SAT because i worked very hard on my essays. I think your chances are fairly high.
