how do u appeal so as to actually GET in to uf????

sadly enough, im not sure theres an answer. i appealed last year. it was my dream school since i was a little kid. IB, >4.5 gpa, 1270 sat, not the best but def not the worst. long story short, being in IB doesnt make u special at UF anymore. a 1300 sat is common. also, and i know many will disagree, affirmative action is working against the student body at UF IMO.

its so sad, seeing what UF has become, elitist type school. good luck.

i requested my appeal packet today. i'm rather peeved because a friend of mine is getting their app personally re-reviewed because they know someone who's brother is on some board.

My boyfriend was rejected from UF this year. However, he was accepted into their school of music. He appealed with a very good letter and a copy of his admission letter into their school of music. What do you think his chances are? And do you know how long it will take for him to find out?
Thanks

I was rejected from UF. I got into a lot of good schools, and I'm not upset at all. UF is a great school with great students, it just wasn't in the cards for me. I called the office of admissions and was told the appeal rate was "less then 2%." I decided not to appeal at all, instead I am focusing in my future school, LSU. To all of the people who were rejected, my advise is to make the most of the university you will be attending.

"appeal rate less than 2%." yes, they did say they only handing out a few grants, which is understandable because they limit the FTIC and Transfer admissions this year, so why admit so many after an appeal? Doesn't make sense. So for the ones who wasen't granted, you can always try the appeal, but like many others said-enjoy your high school and go to the schools who want you. Plus you can try to transfer.

Still REJECTED.
Hispanic
1360 SAT
3.7 UF GPA
Not top 10% (damn that freshman year)

Lesson to others.
Do whatever you need to do get that top 10% status!
Apparently that ALL UF cares about.

FSU Honors here I come.

TapOut - I was wondering when responses to Appeals would be sent out. I sent my appeal in approx 2nd week of March so I just may have a response in the mail when I get home today!

When I called UF Monday they said that I would be hearing within the next week. I was suprised to find that dreaded thin envelope in the mail.

Unfortunatelly I did not come up with a cure for cancer since my first rejection.
The second rejection was sort of expected.

TapOut - Sorry to hear it. You seem to have the right attitude though.

If you don't mind me asking... what was the reason(s) for your appeal?

Good luck at FSU!

Gator2be,
Since UF seems to be stat oriented I tried to show how I would have had a higher GPA and been top 10% in my class if not for medical issues during my freshman year when I got a 2.7 WGPA.
I provided medical documentation proving my condition.
If I remember correctly the appeal form actually mentioned to provide medical documentation.

Its just rough dealing now at 18 with something that happened when I was 14.
As if Im the same person?

I guess that strategy does not work.

TapOut - Thanks for the info.

It does look like you had a legitimate case. I can’t believe they were not more lenient and I can understand how you feel now. Sometimes you wonder if this appeal process is just there to comply with some legal matter.

Anyway, don’t let it get you down. I’m sure you’ll do great on your college of choice. Good luck!!!

When I applied for UF back in September, I wanted to do summer, so I marked it on my application. I got accepted, but when it came down for it, I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I talked to my guidance counselor about the situation, and she was able to talk to the head of admissions who re-reviewed my application. I mailed a formal letter stating exactly why I wanted a term change and fully explained my situation. I didn’t provide legal documentation.

I am ranked 5th in my class, I have a ton of extra curricular activities (some presidential positions), a decent amount of community service. My test scores were rather low with an SAT of 1130 and ACT of 26.

I received an email this morning saying that my request to change terms had been granted.

Whitney, it’s great you got the term change. My D also requested a change, but from Spring to Summer. Can you tell me if your status now shows your new term of Fall?

Yeah, when I log on to check my status like I did back in February, it says Fall 2009 instead of Summer B 2009.

Thanks. It’s great they got back to you already. They said they wouldn’t start reviewing term change requests until after May 1 when people had to notify of their intent to attend.
We didn’t go the head of admissions, but sent in the request they way they recommended that we do it.

Before talking to my guidance counselor, I emailed them, and they replied saying that I’d know by May. I did have a good case to back up why I needed a term change, so that might have been why. My guidance counselor told me that I wouldn’t know until May, but I guess they’re looking at them already. It might be different because I was accepted for summer meaning that I had a spot in fall as it is, so they didn’t really need to see if someone backed out. I hope that last part makes sense.

sorry, i haven’t been on this forum in a while, but is there a deadline that we need to send these appeals in by? also, do they want anything else besides a 1 page statement?

They want the appeals by April 30th, but it is imperative you get it in ASAP. I mailed mine serveral weeks ago and am still waiting for a response. They want a 1 page statement and any documentation that you have to support it.

NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE but I did not pull the sympathy card. I didnt talk of medical issues, divorce, old boyfriends, or anything like that- I owned up to my own actions- and hopefully they see that. If not, fine. I will take my FULL RIDES from other colleges and run with them.

Have faith,
God’s will is better than what you imagine for yourself. Remember that.

^that’s good. good luck.
