Appeal?

I'm still awaiting my rejection from UCI but I'm looking ahead and wondering if it would be worth appealing.

Stats:
CP weighted GPA - 3.12 (due to a terrible Sophomore year)
ACT - 32
SAT 2 French - 800
SAT 2 Math 2 - 720

Currently I am performing better in school than I ever have before and under the hardest schedule I've ever given myself. I had a 4.14 GPA last semester (first semester senior year) and got second alternate to state in Oratorical Interpretation in Speech and Debate. Is my very recent performance reason enough for UCI to accept me?

You should probably mention why you did so horribly sophomore year in your appeal letter.

One of my UC essays already talks about how I went through depression my Sophomore year. I want to focus more on the present than the past. Is it worth going for?

it never hurts to try. if you have any videos of your speech and debate, ask the admissions office if you can submit those as well

Well I know 9 people from my school ('09) who appealed to UCI after they were rejected. 7 of them got in… and none of them did as well as you are doing their senior year.

That sounds promising =) Do you know what they included in their appeals?

I’m not so sure you’ll be denied in the first place. You have an excellent ACT score and great SAT2 subject tests.
There are other point areas besides pure gpa-strength of schedule, upward gpa trend, etc…

They just explained themselves. You know, the usual “I didn’t recognize the importance of education until it was too late” kinda excuse… hahaha

@ OP
what did you apply for, anyways?

I applied for aerospace engineering. I wanted a major that combined both science and math.
