appealing a merit scholarship decision

I applied to Santa Clara University under Early Action and was really surprised to see that I was awarded no merit aid at the school. I applied to the University of Denver, a very similar school in terms of midlines, ect. And was given 10k and invited to apply for a 6k community service scholarship.

Santa Clara is my first choice. I have a hard time with this decisison. I'm valdeictorian of my class. I had a 1200 on my SAT, and I've got some pretty unique solid leadership experience.

I've emailed my admissions counselor and asked them to reconsider. Any tips sugeggestions, comments. They offered me almost no aid. 3500 for workstudy, 3500 loan, and 1000 for a grant. That's all. Seems like somethings wrong with the picture.

1200 on your SAT?
Are those numbers right?
I thought there were three sections and each section is 800 pts.

BTW- some schools just don't give out much merit.
A friend of D's was a national merit scholar and all she got from the school she attended ( which was lower ranked than school D attended- D had a 3.3 GPA- she didn't even make commended ;) ) was $1,000.

I'm guessing he means 1200 combined CR/Math. SCU's merit aid is very competitive and is usually awarded to students admitted with distinction only. Your award sounds in line with those that were received the year DD matriculated there. You should go and talk to them, however. DD didn't initially receive work-study, and they added that. Also they added a Perkins Loan to her package (it's a loan but at least it's a low interest loan).

i did talk with them, and they can offer me no more. so unfortuantly, santa clara most likely will not be where i matriculate. i'm really bummed.
