appealing admissions decision?

i got my rejection letter from the university of pittsburgh last night. i was accepted into bradford (regional campus) ...but they don't even have the major i want. (urban studies) i'm devastated. i really want to go to pitt. its a great school, its affordable, i really like the city of pittsburgh, and i would love to participate in their dual degree program - arts and sciences and business.

has anyone ever appealed a rejected from pitt before?

i've already e-mailed someone i talked to about financial aid, when i was at the picture yourself at pitt day back in september, and asked her if its possible for me to appeal. just waiting to hear back. i submitted my application with an essay and activities resume, but i don't think my counselor sent in my teacher recommendations. so could i offer those, and my 1st semester grades as new information? I am doing pretty well this semester, so hopefully they would be willing to re-review my application along with the recs and my 1st semester grades. i was even thinking i would submit another essay.

thanks for any tips. i really appreciate.

If I remember correctly for my own cousin who appealed her UC Irvine decision, she just sent in a letter to the admission office with her pertinent info and reasons why she is appealing and think she would be a good candidate at the school
But of course she had new data by then (great senior grades and a better SAT score I think) so you ought to do that possibly

Hope that helped…try looking at the “similar threads” as I’m sure others have asked the same question before

yess, this was helpful. thaanks!

You should really only appeal if there is enough new information that would make them reconsider. If you didn’t get in the first time around, it’s because you weren’t what they were looking for. Their standards don’t change, so it is up to YOU to adapt, not the college to adapt to you.

Check with your counselor to see what s/he thinks, and also if your teacher recommendations were sent in.
