I'm REALLY not a fan of the whole appeal system (some of it having to do with having too much pride, the other is me facing reality that they just don't want me), but my mom is making me. I will admit I was not a typical applicant and had extenuating circumstances because of something I couldn't control, but I honestly wouldn't mind going to cc and transferring. Is anyone appealing? What are your views on appealing (be blunt)?

Also, has anyone called to find out the cutoff for this year and how much they missed it by? I want to, but I really don't want to push it and feel like who ever answers will be mean to me :(

and dont be afraid to call...it will help give you some insight on what was missing from your app/what hurt your app. they encourage you to call, so i doubt they'll be rude. so many people on this forum are complaining about how they didnt get in but they dont even bother to call to see what EXACTLY didnt put them "up to par" !

well refreshimage, the way they award points is really weird, so its kinda difficult to do it yourself. its actually pretty random considering that different people have different views on how many points should be awarded so lame huh :(

yeaaa admissions officers are pretty picky when it comes to points. i myself was a treasurer and VP of keyclub and i organized a crappppload of events but i didnt get any leadership points. can you believe that! also, i went through some pretty crappy stuff with my family but i didnt get any special circumstances points....it sucks haha

the number to call is right on the decision page on the website.

Wow, things have really changed since my year, when the cutoff was around ~7468? LOL, looks like UCSD is trying to cut down its admit rate from last's year's ~50%.

I thought the cutoff was 7535? And they said average g.p.a. was about 4.03, and average SATI was 1957 (or somewhere around there.) I have to agree with you eonxblue, I do a lot of leadership positions for a few clubs, but it doesn't really count. This point systemmm.. sigh.

I'm not going to start a rant about UCSD though because I doubt I would have gone if I had gotten in. So the position went to someone who really wanted it :)

danggit, the lines have been busy every single time ive called.

(im kinda grateful for this- pretty worried/scared to ask ahha)

so did you guys give them your ID then ask what the cut off point was, and how many points you received? and also- were you able to ask what your weaknesses were?

My teacher who did admissions for UCSD told me all about appeal. I was planning on writing my appeal letter even though we didn't get sent out the decisions yet because I felt like I would get owned. Luckily for me I got in, but I'll share something with you people. They only consider Appeals if there is somethign super extraordinary that you did not put in your application. One such example she gave me was that if you were on a streak of let's say A's and a few B's but sudddenly became a B/C student at the end of a year. You would need an excuse such as "immediate family member's death" or "diagnosed with cancer". Something of that sort. Another situation would just be like hardships that could not be known from just reading your application. So with that I hope you guys can get in! GOOD LUCK YO! ^___^

huh... usually admissions officers are nice. It's the regular phone reps who are really rude. One time I called USC to ask if I could change my major, and the regular phone rep lectured me and told me that I sounded like I had no direction in life and then said I could not change my major until fall 2009. Then I emailed an admissions counselor, and he was totally awesome about it.

When the person you speak to on the phone is rude, it makes you rethink whether you really even want to go to that school anymore >.>
