Hello!
After hearing back from all of my colleges, I’ve narrowed it down to Fordham and Creighton. Both financial aid packages are good, but the COA at Fordham is higher. I received an $18k Magis Award at Creighton and a $12.5k Loyola Scholarship at Fordham (both in addition to other financial aid). My EFC is 0. I plan to appeal the financial aid Fordham gave me. If I send in a copy of my $18k award from Creighton, will that help me in the appeals process?
Thanks!
You can try. Only Fordham will have the answer.
How much will you have to pay out of pocket for each school. If you have a 0 EFC, unless one or both schools is covering the cost of everything without parent PLUS loans, then neither school will most likely be affordable
It is a whole lot cheaper to live in Omaha than NYC.
How would I state that I received more money (around 5500 more) from Creighton in my Fordham appeal? I do not want to sound hostile or aggressive – I just want to make them aware that a similar school awarded me more, and if Fordham matches that award, it will ease the strain.
Even if Fordham gave you the amount that Creighton is, HOW are you going to pay the rest if your EFC is 0…that suggests low income
@mom2collegekids outside scholarships, a good job/paid activities during the summer, and support from some family members
Pepper, you send Fordham the award from Creighton.
@thumper1 , do I attach that along with my appeal letter? I am going to mention some other circumstances as well. Should I mention something about it on the letter, like “In addition, I have been accepted at Creighton University, and they have awarded me a Magis Award totaling $18,000 a year”? I don’t know how to say “I probably won’t come here unless you offer me something a little closer to Creighton’s award” without sounding rude.
You just say, “I really want to attend Fordham - it’s my first choice, but I can’t turn down an $18k scholarship. Is there any way that my award could be increased so that I can attend Fordham?”
@dodgersmom thank you!!!
