Appealing for aid

So I've gotten accepted to the college of my choice and received my financial aid package from them. They expect me to pay $20,000 out of my pocket. How can I go about appealing? I have a college that offered me a significant amount of aid, where I would need to pay only $12,000 out of my pocket. Can I use this college to leverage some sort of adjustment? My father also was unemployed for 4 months, so I can provide proof of that as well. I'm just looking for suggestions on the best way to approach this.

Some colleges will discuss their financial aid offers and others will not. Some colleges will consider the offers of other colleges if the other college is considered a PEER school…in other words, a school that is similarly competitive. If the school that gave you a lot of money is not a peer school…the other school really won’t care. Re: your dad’s unemployment…is he unemployed now? If not, that likely won’t matter either.

But go ahead and ask…nothing ventured, nothing gained.

bump… any other responses?

Nothing more to say. Thumper is right.

There really isn’t a different response.
