appealing for financial aid?

how successful is it and has anyone tried it?

If they do give you money, it's only 5k max. My efc is 0 and I still need to pay 11k up front.

They do not have a "max" money they can give. Each individual is evaluated separately.

CMU is stingy. Don't expect much from appealing. I know one person who appealed successfully (probably by virtue of being a "minority"; i.e. female in CS).

The money aspect is right now the only thing keeping me from deciding on Carnegie Mellon, do you think it is worth to pay more in comparison to a public university (such as UVA?) just to go to Carnegie?

thats what I'm looking at to bluemistgirl, it's so hard to decide. I love CMU but being in too much debt out of undergrad scares me, especially when I look at grad school prices.

I know...we don't have much time to decide...I really don't want to pay loans for so long. Does the other school you are trying to decide with give you better financial aid, samcold0? What is CMU like? I never got a chance to visit because something always came up? I feel like I am making a random choice because I have never see CMU..and I would pay more than if I went to any of the other schools...I can't decide if loans are worth taking...

I'm deciding between URochester and CMU, and I have very good aid from UR but I really like CMU

go to CMU for grad school with money in the bank. - UR is a good choice. Congratualations for a great award, from both schools.

CMU has masters programs that guarantee you a masters if you can keep up at 3.0 or something
