We are based in Canada and my younger brother recently got admitted to Cornell - the school of his dreams. Unfortunately, he was not offered any financial aid.

With a family income of under $70K, it will be pretty much impossible for us to send him there on our own. Is there a way to appeal the decision, and if so, is it effective at all? I read someone else posting "How am I supposed to afford 50K a year if my family earns less than 50K" so I am sure there are people in worse situations. But is there anything that can be done?

If not, is it worth the money at all? We could sell an arm and leg and send him there, but is the $200K+ worth it?

Unfortunately Cornell doesn’t guarantee financial aid for internationals. And Canadians are international. It used to be that there was $5MM set aside just for Canadians, but this year that pot has been shared with internationals from all other countries.

Personally, I think it was a poor move on Cornell’s part.

I do not think Cornell is worth $150k more than Waterloo or McGill if you do not have the money.

yup. As long as they realize Crosby really isn’t a God of a player and AO is the best in the world, I really enjoy the Canadian presence on campus. My roommate one year was from Toronto.

Did you apply for aid and not get any?

Wow, they changed their policy for Canadians. Way to close the door right when I’m about to walk through.
