hey guys, i know this probably isn't the best time to ask with all the crazy UCLA admissions happening but i plan to attend a CCC in hopes of transferring and was wondering that if i were to be placed in a lower level math class because of doing poorly on the test, would i be able to appeal and be placed straight into say Calc 1 by showing that i have taken and passed high level math courses in high school such as calculus? (even without passing the AP exam) i was told this by kevinc121 a little while back but i heard differently from someone else so just wanted to see what the general consensus is. thanks in advance.

just study for the test and take it again?

yes, is it possible to do that?

At my CCC, I’m able to retake the placement test every 3 months.

what about appealing with the fact that you took Calc already in highschool to be placed into (and skip the test) instead?

i dont think CC’s (or any college) gives a damn how high you got in HS math. You still have to take their tests.

My opinion (once again) would be to just get a practice version from your CC, study all of the formulas that are on it, then go take the test again. CC’s usually let you retake math placement every few months, or if you are in a rush you can take the placement at a different CC and (if you pass) take those results to your CC and you should be set.

Besides that…make friends with someone in matriculation/assessment office? :)

In my case I just mentioned to my counselor that I had taken Calculus 6 years ago in high school, and she just instantly authorized me to take Calc I and Mechanics of Solids. I would ask a counselor about it.

LOL, 6 years? Jesus that is a long time, how’d you do in calc 1?

Just fine, but that happens to be my major. (;

aah, nicely done.
