Appealing merit scholarship ??

Is there a way to appeal your merit award ?

Contact the admission’s department and inquire about this. This question comes up every year and some people have reported on this board that they did attempto appeal their merit aid awards in the past. Unfortunately, at least on this board, no one has ever reported being successful in getting their merit aid awards increased. I am not saying this has never happened, but I am not personally aware of anyone being successful in doing this and again, no one has reported on this board that they were successful in this endeavor. At least you can ask and see what their response is. Should you be successful in accomplishing this please let us all know. Wishing you the best.

We went through the appeal process for our son but unfortunately it was denied. Not sure if it had anything to do with the fact that more students accepted than expected or not. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering do they have limits of what they give out per major you are accepted . A friend received 7500 and was undeclared for her major while I received Zero and was accepted for Nursing. Both of us had very similar stats 3.75 gpa 1800 sat. We are both OOS

Unfortunately I don’t think anyone but UD itself could give you a definite answer to this and I suspect that UD would probably not be willing to give anyone the specifics as to how they complete their evaluations to allot merit money. I guess you could ask UD and see what respose you would get. I suspect they would tell you that they evaluate each accepted student for merit money on an individual basis looking at multiple factors but I doubt they would be any more specific than this. Good luck. UD does have an excellent Nursing Program, congratulations on your acceptance to it.

@bluecap We are OOS, my son was accepted into the Honors program, his SAT score was higher, but he also received only 7500, and he, too, is in a competitive major. It was the lowest merit he received from any of the schools to which he applied. The public isn’t privy to the merit criteria at UD, but some schools do have their criteria posted online. I have never heard of a successful merit appeal to date, but you never know. If you can reach a live person, the Admissions people are quite friendly and they may have some advice for you. Good luck! Wish I had a better answer.
