@ joeb: Whoah! I live in Burlingame! Did you go to SI? I was SOOOO close to going there 4 years ago. Anyways, I’m not appealing because I’m a transfer student and don’t know if I’m in or not yet. I’ll know on 4/30.

Btw if you did go to SI, I know that it’s like nearly impossible to go from there to Berkeley. I have SOOO many qualified friends that went there and were rejected last year. It was ridiculous; I was shocked…I figured transfer was the way to go ;p.

I went to BHS (Bgame lol) dropped out my soph year (horrible place) went to a CCC, and I’ll (hopefully) be transferring as a junior this fall.

It’s cool to see someone else from the area on here, and I definitely wish you luck in your appeal to Berkeley! I think that you def deserved to get in.

Oh gosh, I feel your pain - it sucked getting rejected from Berkeley:(. I know I at least am definitely making an appeal, if it makes you feel better. I’d go for it- I mean, there’s nothing to lose at this point.

But yeah it’s rough. I mean I’m going to keep my fingers crossed to the breaking point on that appeal. Even with my stats, I didn’t get even weight-listed, but rejected outright…

Hi guys! I’m just wondering how you appealed for UCB. Is there an appeal form or do you just mail an appeal letter? Or send an appeal letter through email? And do they want a recommendation from a counselor or teacher with your appeal? Thanks guys!

Maddy101010: I do not understand their system!!! I was waitlisted with lower scores than you. Unweighted 3.97, weighted 4.5, SAT 1950 and ACT 31, no subject tests, 6 AP’s, OOS too!

I have the same question as ucapplicant101. Myberkeleyapp provides an online form that allows appeals to be submitted along with a form for one recommendation letter and no address for mailing appeal packages. This has left me confused. Previous appeal processes have all been handled through mail. How are we supposed to attach additional information such as transcripts and letters of recommendation?

Hey guys, i’m a senior this year who just got rejected from berkeley… but plan to appeal this! Those of you who got in have any tips on what to write about or what admission officers are looking for? How many letter of recs did you guys submit? Anything would help! I know the reason I got rejected was because of my low SATs. I got the borderline supplement but was rejected anyway… should I submit the same letter of rec because my english teacher wrote a really good one, or should i submit one written by my principal? Thanks!

And it says to submit the appeal letter online and one letter of rec? Do we need to send in transcripts and stuff? What do we need to send in the package if we mail it?

The grounds for appeal that are listed on this thread, for the most part, do not constitute “new and pertinent information.” No wonder the success rate for both UCB and UCLA is miniscule.
Think it through. No one likes to get a NO. You’ll likely head to a second one.
If that’s all right with you, no one (not even this poster) should discourage you. Just please THINK.

If I feel that my original application seemed a bit one sided, would it help to write an appeal that included more about me (I realized after submitting my app that I didn’t represent myself holistically)? Or would this not constitute as “new” info? thanks.

Since Berkeley is so stats-oriented in their admissions, I don’t much personal information would constitute as significant. Most likely only if you forgot an important piece of information or if you had any significant medical condition(depression, add, adhd). If your gpa was low, show them a much higher one. If your SAT was low, show them a much higher one. Other than that, it might not be worth applying, and as someone previously said, getting another no. Up to you though.

The appeal form is online - there should be a link somewhere on the same page where you view your rejection.
As for the appeal itself, there’s one letter of recommendation and one personal statement stating your reasons for appeal. For me, I went over my stats, extracurriculars and added in the (6-ish) new things that there wasn’t room for on the application itself (not exactly in that order). I restated why I wanted to go to Berkeley over the other schools that I did get accepted into and why I want to study engineering (my study of choice) at Berkeley specifically. Make sure that the tone is respectful. Remember, there are no “mistakes” throughout the admissions process and be sure to let the admissions counselors know what exactly YOU can bring to their campus.
Good luck everyone! Hope this helps haha and remember to get it in by the fifteenth!
