I really don't have any significant changes or accomplishments, but if present my appeal well with convincing reasons and I have strong recommendations. Is it possible fore the appeal to go through?

What's your "convincing reasons" ?

Keep in mind that the appeals process is not an opprtunity to reapply. Without significant changes and/or reasons ie. omitted grades, new honours/awards, etc., your appeal will most certainly fail. Besides, they don't accept recommendations during the application process. How do you know they do during the appeals process?

they DO ask for a couple of rec letters for appeals, b/c my friend last year appealed to a uc n needed 2 of them.

My fault then for not doing sufficient research. But I stand by my opinion, the comment regarding recommendations notwithstanding.

I agree with Bowler that you would need a good reason to appeal.

Yeah, appealing isn't so much about showing why they chose incorrectly, as it is rather justifiying that their decision information was incomplete/incorrect.

i think UCLA has only appealed like 2 decisions ever. And i think it was for blatant errors like they accidentally read the wrong application.

ah....for some reason i was stupid and did not apply to the ARTS program at ucla...and instead general arts/sciences.... :(

would i be able to appeal and some how send in a portfolio letting them know my situation hahaha as absurd as it might sound....ughhh...
definately regretting this...
because my friend who has lower stats got in through the arts program and my work is just as competitive :\

or maybe this is just the bitter feeling of rejection lol

I have two friends in marching band who appealed to UCLA after they were initially rejected last year. One was a section leader and the other was a band captain. They spoke with our band director, and he wrote about how my two friends would be valuable additions to UCLA's marching band in his recommendation letters. Both of their appeals turned out to be successful, and they're now having a wonderful time at UCLA.

Damn, are you serious? My band director is a personal friend of one of the UCLA directors. I should do that.

Hey I'm also in the Marching band and one of my previous band directors was a member of Pacific Coast drum and bugle as well as the UCLA marching band. Is it a good idea to try and appeal through him? I play alto sax and I know gorden Henderson really likes brass lol and shafts woodwinds but is it a good idea to appeal. I can say that I'm an ok student at the very least but I'm in the Top Band as well as Top Jazz band. I'm in the School Orchestra winds as well as the musical Pit for this year. I'm also in the Video Broadcasting group and founder and President of my school's Aid For Africa club. Should I appeal?

lol UCLA admissons person is going to be confused when he/she sees a influx regarding marching band

I got accepted to Berkeley, USC, and other UC schools but not UCLA, my first choice. I wrote my appeal as I received 2 scholarships since my app:

1-Coca-cola scholar semifinalist
2-San Diego Salute to Education

My stats: 4.33 GPA; 1910 SAT; 710 SATII spanish
top 5% of class (missed ELC by 2 places!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Several Girl Scout leadership awards (national) and all types of leadership in high school including national champion gymnast and equestrian.

I dont have high hopes, but neither Berkeley nor USC thrill me as far as their surrounding neighborhood (was accosted by the homeless in Berkeley and it was unsettling!)

Perhaps the athletic department can help get you in? It's worth a try. They have a top ranked women's gymnastics team.

The Daily Bruin - Bruins advance to NCAA nationals

Good Luck!

If this is the case, you would/should already be on the athletic department's recruiting radar...

have you heard back from UCLA since your appeal? i'm appealing to berkeley (got into UCLA ha ha ha...), but haven't heard anything back since i sent out that letter, is that normal?

I havent heard back from UCLA yet, but when I log into the website (my admissions) I get "we are reviewing your records" message.

I'll trade you, my Berkeley acceptance for your UCLA and call it an even trade!! I thought if I got into Berkeley I'd definitely get into UCLA, but that's not how it works anymore!!

I sent my appeal to UCLA two days after I got the first rejection. That's coming up on five weeks ago. I want to hear their final decision already! x.x

My friend got into UCLA on appeal last year, he wrote about financial hardship.
