@Mikerol - again, I suggest you move on to your acceptances. Even with the improved score, chances of admission were pretty low. Good luck at Iowa State.
Guys I’m just trying to get accepted spring semester, I knew I didn’t have a chance at fall lol
We’re actually not messing with u. My friend is in the same position as you.
My appeal though apparently won’t work because there has to be new and compelling information that wasn’t previously submitted. I feel so dumb now for getting my scores submitted like 2 weeks before decisions came out. @DDOuser
Has anyone had experience or know anyone involved in the appeal process? I’m assuming they will just e-mail me my final decision, but honestly not sure.
i guess you can try to suddenly join athletic clubs or something very soon so you can write those down.
How do you know it’s low for spring admission if you don’t even know the stats for spring? @brantly
@Mikerol Because I know many people who have been admitted into Freshman Connection for spring admit.
@brantly Yes so do I and some of them have low 1600s and 1700s while others have 1900s and 2000s. We do not know the full stats, the average ACT for spring could be 27 for all we know. If the average for Fall is a 31, I doubt the average for Spring is 30 or above.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to ask you to reconsider my application to the University of Maryland-College Park. The University of Maryland was and still is my dream school. My mother is an alumni and my brother is a current student, so I would love to carry on the family tradition at UMD-CP. I have already sent in my admission fee to Iowa State University, but something has clicked with me over the past couple of months that I just may not be ready to live halfway across the country on my own yet. With Maryland being my number one school of choice and just a short forty-five-minute drive away, I thought I'd give it one last shot.
I applied for the priority deadline to UMD and was denied admission on January 29th. My original ACT score of 22 which was submitted by the deadline of November 1st was raised significantly months later to a score of 26. However, this new ACT score was not sent in until mid-January, just a week or two before the decisions were released. Not only is this an increase of 4 points (equivalent to an SAT raise of about 200 points), but I increased my national percentile from 62nd to 83rd. Although I realize that these are national percentiles and UMD has higher competitive scores, I still believe that this score raise is worth noting. My original ACT Reading score was a 19 which was raised 8 points to a 27 on my second ACT score. This shows that I am a well-rounded student as my ACT Reading, and ACT Math were both scores of 27. These scores are worth taking a look at for reconsideration as the chances are that my better ACT score was not used in the decision since it came in late. This significant score raise was also in the span of about three months which ultimately shows resoluteness. I take full responsibility for my lack of planning in the application process. I regret not applying for the regular deadline as this would have allowed the admissions committee to consider my score raise, which would have given me a greater chance to reach my goal of being accepted for the Spring 2017 semester. I have also been accepted into IVHQ (International Volunteer HQ) for this June. This is a two-week program in Costa Rica where I will be working as an Eco-Agriculture Conservation volunteer. This trip will enable me to see the world from another perspective as well as teach me how to live on my own before college. My plan of majoring in International Business with a minor in Spanish fits ideally with this trip to Costa Rica which should give me some meaning in my life to figure out exactly what it is I want to do.
I wish to attend the University of Maryland simply because it is a top school in the nation and it is just forty-five minutes away. This school will provide me with endless opportunities as a business major. Future employment is all about networking, and internship opportunities which I am confident will be stronger at UMD over Iowa State University. Secondly, I'm still unsure if I'm truly ready to be seventeen hours away for college. These past couple of months have been the most difficult and darkest times of my life trying to find myself. What I've come to realize is that UMD still has a calling for me. Overall, what I want in a college the most is a challenge. I tend to work up with my peers or down with my peers. In other words, if I'm surrounded by thousands of talented individuals with brilliant ideas and academic achievements, I can ensure that my work ethic will be at its highest point. If admitted, my goal is to have a strong freshman year with a competitive GPA to work my way up to the Smith School of Business as an International Business major. How will this be done? Like I said work ethic is ultimately risen when given a challenge. Surrounding myself with competitive students and brilliant professors is a huge challenge that will keep me motivated.
Finally, as I know there are space limitations and this particular class of 2020 is a group with fine distinctions who are extremely qualified, I still have a sense of hope that I can be an impactful student at Maryland. I greatly appreciate the opportunity for a reconsideration. Hopefully in my near future I'll be walking around the halls of Smith and opening my eyes to explore the world of endless opportunities.
Sincerely,
OP, this is not convincing. It actually paints you in a negative light in certain respects. Please do not send.
I gave it a try.
@Mikerol “I wish to attend the University of Maryland simply because it is a top school in the nation and it is just forty-five minutes away.” -This sentence is not appropriate.
I sent it in, but the one of the admissions officers told me that if you submitted something on your application that was not reviewed, it is not grounds for appeal. So I guess it’s impossible for me to appeal, but will they still reconsider my application? I don’t know how that works.
^ That looks like a no, since, by and large, the basis for your appeal is an increase in test scores. Time to move on. Best of look to you!
Yeah you’re right time for Ames! @itsgettingreal17
