Unfortunately for me, I was rejected from the University of Washington. So, I decided that I would try for an appeal/petition to try to get reconsidered. So, I was wondering how often the petitions actually get people to get into the university. I would guess not many.

did ur unoffical transcript not load?

Who cares if the unofficial transcript didn't load? Tsunami knows he/she didn't get in.

Tsunami: Definitely go for it and make sure to ask friends to edit it for you. At least 25% of all petitionees get in somewhere, so it's definitely worth a try.

If you don't try it..then you'd never know if you had a shot or not.

What's your backup school?

I would caution you about this, yet encourage you to do what's best. Appeals usually only go through because of a technical mistake (a transcript or SAT scores were not received). If nothing has changed since your initial application, then the chances of getting that appeal through is minimal.

I was initially rejected by UW. The rejection letter said it was because I failed to meet core requirements by not completing 2 years of high school French. I actually have 3 years of high school French, but not at GCSE level (I'm British), so it didn't appear on my transcript.

My former French teacher wrote a letter explaining this, I wrote an appeal letter and sent this, along with some teacher recommendations, to the Office of Admissions.

I was accepted yesterday. :)

My backup is WSU, which I got into, however that is the only other college I applied to. The deadline to confirm in going to WSU is May 01, 2008, but on the UW website, the replies to the appeals usually come in the month of march. I do not know what to do here. I am also considering trying for UW Bothell since that's one of the suggestions that the rejection letter offered, but is going to Bothell going to give me a better chance to transferring to UW Seattle? Then there are some people I know who are going to BCC then transferring to UW Seattle, however some say you need to go to BCC two years before transfer and I do not want to do that.

Hm..hate to say this (because I'm a Husky fan) but you should definitely go to WSU. Sure it's in Pullman..but it's a MUCH better alternative than BCC or Bothell.

Here are your options as I see it:

1) Go to WSU.

2) Go to UW Bothell. If you're going to UW Bothell, you can't study what you want to. You can only study Business Administration, Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, Computing & Software Systems, Education and Nursing. If you want to study those, that should be your only reason to go there. The way UW Seattle looks at it is, "Dasani already got into a University of Washington, why should we accept him to the Seattle campus? He got rejected as a freshman, what more could he offer?" Bothell offers you a very constricted curriculum and you will end up spending over 4 years in college because you would not have finished your major requirements by then.

3) Go to BCC (Bellevue Community College, right?) for 2 years and transfer to UW-Seattle. For this, you might not get into UW-Seattle if you don't do well at BCC so it's a risk. If that happens, you might have to go to WSU no matter what. Plus, a community college will look bad on your resume.

All in all, WSU is your best bet. Spend one year at WSU and transfer to UW-Seattle. Not only is it cheaper, but you will be on track to graduate in your major! Nothing's better than ditching Cougar city and turning into a Husky!!

Good luck! Hope I helped!

P.S. Here's the link to Bothell's academics page. As you can see, there are only five options. Not the best, unless you're into computers, business, or nursing.

UW Bothell - Academics

P.S.S Did you mean UW notifies you the month of May? not March? Also, the other students who go to BCC then transfer to UW-Seattle, usually don't do to well in high school. Do you want to be on the same level as they are?

I applied back in December (OOS from CT).. it's interesting to me how people have been accepted, rejected, and accepted after petitioning, while i have yet to receive any sort of decision. what if i wanted to petition my decision? i would have no time. does anyone know when the last decisions will come out?

If you petition, they will tell you in May.

I think Dasani made a typo by saying March when he meant May.

I only know so much about this because my sister was in the same position as Dasani. She ended up going to WSU and loving it (Husky traitor)

If you want to eventually go to UW, don't go to the Bothell campus. Transfers are very difficult from UW Bothell to the main campus. Go to BCC for a few years and transfer then, that's the much easier path.

I agree about BCC. I'm doing Running Start there (a dual credit program) and I know a lot of people who've transferred from there to the UW (either for financial reasons or they messed up in highschool). It seems to be a pretty seamless transition for motivated students, and BCC is pretty good as CCs go. On top of that, pretty much all of your credits will transfer over.

when do appeals need to be submitted by? I am waitlisted and I have other options but I would really like the chance to go to UW

I was rejected by UW-Seattle for this fall and i am applying for BCC for this Winter.

Well, it has officially been two years since I started this thread when I first got rejected from UW Seattle, and I’m glad to say I’ve been at UW Seattle for two quarters now. I went to BCC for five quarters consisting of art, math, english, chemistry, and japanese. My GPA was 3.73 and I got in. So you don’t even have to finish your transfer degree before applying for transfer. So, 10152229, get good grades at BCC, and getting into UW should be no problem.

Congrats, Dasani! :)

Thank you.

Nice. Kind of unusual for you to pop up when somebody randomly bumped up your topic.

Not really. I subscribed to the topic when I made it, so I get an email like:

Dear DasaniTsunami,

Igi has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Appeals/Peititions for Reconsideration - in the University of Washington forum of College Confidential.

Cool. Nice to hear the follow up.

I am waiting to hear back on my transfer app for winter quarter. I will have an associates degree, and my GPA is pretty much right where yours is.

Hi I got rejected from UW for this year and I got into Western. I’m working on the appeal but I’m afraid that it won’t work. How hard is it to transfer from Western to UW Seattle?
