Appeals?

Is there any way to appeal an admissions decision? Like, write a letter and debate it or something? No one from my school was admitted when normally about 6 are accepted, and a couple actually go. This year apparently they let in very few kids from Texas, and I just think that's not fair in the very least bit.

I was going to appeal at Duke until I talked to a million kids just like me who are very qualified but just didn't get in. College decisions are kinda crazy and unpredictable, but I bet your rejection isn't because you are from Texas. Perhaps the admission pool was just really huge and more competitive than usual. That's what I've heard atleast. Of course, if you really love Rice then you should appeal. It doesn't hurt to try...I would just really think about why you should have been accepted. If your reason is "they discriminate against Texans" you won't get very far. Good luck :)

I guess there's no harm in it, since it's not like they're able to double-reject you or anything. I just wouldn't expect anything to come out of it. Keep in mind that Rice accepts only about 20% of its applicants. Most of the 80% who aren't accepted aren't necessarily less qualified in any certain way, it's just a matter of only having so many spots to go between so many applicants. So yes, you can point to test scores and GPA well within the accepted range and outstanding ECs, essays, and recommendations, but so can about 5000 other people who were rejected.

That's what I thought. Yeah, I know. Maybe I'll give it a go. Couldn't hurt even though most likely nothing will come of it.
