Apple and college computer!

i thought i very much wanted a laptop- but was dissapointed by the relatively small moniters on the black macbooks. then i looked towards the imac and was extremely impressed that i could get a 20inch moniter and all the great same apple stuff for the a comprable price...but im nervous about getting adesktop, even if it is so thin and easy. is the macbookpro worth it? it seems too expensive, but with the education discounts i am now thinking that the 15inch is only like 100dollars more than the imac 20inch. is it worth it? five incnes? is a fifteen inch big enough? realistically, wont i be good with a desktop-- will i really be in cafes or the quad with my computer? there are also other ocmputers everywhere on campus,

thanks for reading my ramblings...input please.

i type faster then i write and i lose notes easy so im bringing my macbook to class with me, so 13'' is a good size.

my 15in powerbook is fine. i have never thought "this is too small."

yep. my 15in powerbook is perfect. the screen feels bigger than 15in. i think the biggest powerbook (17in-- at least that was when i bought mine) was just unnecessarily big and a pain in the ass to cart around (and find a bag/case for it). i can see the screen well, it's the perfect size for bringing around campus or even watching movies on it.

realistically, you could be good with a desktop. but i think if you're just getting it for the screen, it may not be worth it. initially, i never brought my laptop anywhere, but eventually i started to. it's so nice to be able to leave a distracting dorm room and write a paper on my own computer whenever i want. or to bring my computer home to do work over random breaks. i mean, sure there are flash drives and stuff that will allow you to do that, but a laptop has been incredible handy for me. my roommate had a desktop and then bought a laptop. that's an expensive move. i'd think it's better off to buy the laptop, and test out the screen, see if it works for you (i'm sure it will) and if you bring it around places. if for some reason it's too small, then use your educational discount and buy a bigger screen to plug in.

the new apple notebooks are widescreen. the 15" macbook pro has a relatively bigger screen than its predecessor. I think the 15" will do fine for you and it is a better option for college than desktop. You never know where else you might need a computer handy, the macbook pro will give you flexiblity. hope this helps.

Another thing to consider with laptops . . . the bigger the screen the less battery life. I had a 17" Powerbook and on a full battery I could barely get it to last an hour. Honestly, when it comes to laptops it's a good idea to have a little smaller screen. As others said, 15" is a decent sized screen and it is a lot less bulky than the bigger ones.
