Yeah, it was limited to a few models, but that must have amounted to thousands of laptops.
My macbook has frozen on some occasions; the cool thing you can find a way around quitting the non-responding program without having to restart the whole computer.

Personally I am thrilled about getting my mac. Then again I am blessed with a bit more money to afford it. The laptop that I will be getting this summer will be better than the PC I am on now, and better than a lot of "standard" PC's that people buy.

Mac is overpriced, yes, but if you have the money the quality is very good. Mac is far superior for presentations/artsy type things, and since the new OS will run Windows, and they have Office on Mac there isnt any issue with them as far as I can see... except price. :)

Im also getting an iPod and a lot of things to go with my mac. The thing I like is that Mac seems to flow VERY well. There isnt a huge issue with plugging in a lot of things or huge set process.... I guess it just flows better with the way I like to work.

Really though.. its just a matter of preference.

Mac isn't that overpriced. I have one of the $1,050 macbooks and it's great. I've had no reason to need a macbook pro or anything.

Hmm havent looked at the mac books, ive been looking at a laptop that will replace the power of my PC and last me for the next... long... LONG time.

.> Lots of money....

I've read a couple of posts mentioning Office for the Mac OS X. Just wanted to let you guys know that it absolutely sucks. This is not bias from my part. I've had people that live and die by Apple tell me this. Even the computer techs I work with tell me this. Microsoft essentially released a version of Office for the Mac that is buggy and troublesome and stripped down. The couple of times I've seen the OS X crash it's been trying to do an installation of Office. I never understood what the techs were telling me until I saw it with my own eyes. It just isn't the same. All it brings is Word, Excel, and Entourage (aka Outlook). I'm not sure about PowerPoint but those three programs they definitely include. You're probably better off using an alternative to Office on the Mac.

Office comes with powerpoint and I've had no issues with it and like it waaaay better than AppleWorks or Office for Windows. I mostly just use Word.

diddnt know that office on mac was so buggy! Shame!!

Oh well, I only planned to use Microsoft Word for it. The Mac presentation maker is so much nicer in my opinion, and I would never use outlook. G-mail all the way! Google documents for spread sheets :) (http://docs.google.com/)

Word for Mac is not intrinsically bad. It works pretty well on the Mac, and the program is stable; however, on the Intel Macs - since Office 2003 wasn't written for Intel processors on Macs - Word runs poorly.

At any rate, I'm running Office 2007 on Windows Vista on a Macbook, and it is running nicely.

^That is probably what I will do. Once the new OS comes out ill just boot into Windows if I need to type up something in word and cant in Mac. Otherwise I love the flow of Mac, which is most important to me when using a computer.

anyone comment on how a Dell Latitude 620 would compare to a Macbook? Durability, portability, etc.

Macbook's a new model...kind of hard to tell.

if you have a lot of memory, word and office for mac on the intel macs are not too bad - they just take a long time to start. although, there are some bad bugs in word and powerpoint which are really annoying, and definitely won't be fixed until office 2007 for mac comes out next year (which is what I'm waiting for)

So, if you need word or office --> it's definitely usable on mac. If you don't immediately need it, wait for office 2007.

I need a new computer and I'm planning to get a Macbook Pro...so I think I'm just going to go with OpenOffice. I have to buy Mac OS books and I can't afford Office. Besides, anything from Microsoft doesn't work very well.

I have Office 2004 on my Macbook, and I haven't encountered any really bad problems, but I would agree that the programs take a rather long time to start.

The new Macbooks can't run Matlab...a big problem here

Actually, they can, two ways:

You can tweak the powerpc mac version of matlab, by disabling certain features (specifically, all java-based features), to get it to run rosetta.

Or, you can get the matlab 2007 beta for intel macs. It runs just as slowly, because it's loaded with debug stuff, but it's a full-featured universal binary and doesn't run under rosetta.

For example, I'm running matlab 2007 beta - student version right now (legally :) ) Getting the matlab beta varies depending on your status as a matlab user (i.e., student, professional, giant licensee, etc)

Yeah...you guys don't need to buy Office 2007 for Windows, since they're coming out with a Office 2007 optimized for the new Intel Macs.
