not yet, I don’t remember them really announcing the last couple years @ WWDC. Its more a tradition than anything now, so i wouldn’t get too dissappointed yet that they haven’t made a big to-do over it. Its coming, don’t worry.

Lion is going to $30 and only available through the Mac App Store so 10.6 Snow Leopard will be a requirement before installing Lion. Nice price and It has a ton of iOS features built in.

According to Apple, OS X Lion will be available in July, so presumably any computer purchased after that July date will already have Lion installed.

ALF- where did you find out about Lion coming out in July? Is there an article on the Apple site or something?

^Macrumors.com has info on the keynote presentation from Apple and runs down Lion, iOS5, and iCloud. Just follow the link its on the front page.

Google news. =D

do you guys think it is worth it to wait until july to buy a mac? i definitely want to take advantage of the back to school promotion, so that means i would be able to buy a mbp sometime this month…i am not worried about paying $30 to upgrade to lion but would there be any difference between a computer that you uploaded lion to or one that comes with lion on it?

If the back-to-school promotion is still on in July, I think I’ll just wait til then so I can get OS Lion on it already.

If you buy a mac between now and the release of lion, you’ll get it for free so it doesn’t really matter. The Back to School promotion usually ends first week of September so you’ll have plenty of time to decide on what you’d like.

i dont want the ipad/ipod. is it possible to instead get apple to give the rebate off the laptop instead? :S
Thanks!

^It doesn’t sound like they’ve done that in the past, but who knows what they’ll come up with this year. I do want the iPod…

^oh well. Guess I’ll give it to one of my cousins.
oh and is it possible to get the student discount on refurbished macs? :S

^Well, check with someone else too- I could be wrong about it. I’m new to Mac too.

Idk if the discount applies to refurbished Macs- I’m pretty sure it doesn’t. Just go to apple.com and to the store page, and they have a free live chat thing and you can ask an Apple person that.

The back to school promotion only applies to new mac computers bought through the education store on apple.com. Sadly, the rebate only applies when you buy the iPod. Itd be nice if they’d just let you take the money off the top of the total cost of the mac, but that hasn’t been the case in the past

oh well. Thanks a lot for your help Big Cat! :)

I would wait to buy the MacBook for at least until July. The deal still may come out.

Still no deal…

There is a new rumor that the back to school special will be a $100 itunes gift card. No ipod or ipad.

^I hope that’s not true. I want the iPod touch!

Whatever it is, it’s supposed to start tomorrow.
