My macbook rarely runs warmer than any other laptop. I have an internal temp tracker installed and it usually runs around 60 degrees C in the inside of the computer. On the rare occasion that it gets up around 67, my fans turn on and it goes right back down.

Buy applecare a month before you standard warranty expires. The service you get is awesome. If you have any problem, they ship you out a box in one day and you send it out. You get it back the next day usually.

^^^^
AppleCare is only from the date of purchase of the laptop/iMac. So if you wait until JUST before your one years ends, you will have lost those 11 months

I spoke to a rep when I purchased my MBP and they said it would be fine.

Ravi7791, unless you have that in writing, you may have been mislead. This is from the Terms of Service for AppleCare:
a. Scope of Coverage. Your coverage for defects begins on the date your Covered Equipment’s Apple hardware warranty expires and terminates at the end of the Coverage Period (“Repair Coverage Period”).
The Apple hardware warranty for Macbooks is 1 year. So whenever you buy it, the term of the AppleCare warranty is an additional 2 years (extending it to 3 years). You don't get any extra time on the coverage just by buying it at the end of the one year warranty period.

But I'll put a plug in for the AppleCare program. D had a problem with iTunes, which isn't covered by the regular warranty. But because we had AppleCare, the techs took care of the problem (which turned out not even to be Apple's problem, but a peripheral that wasn't Apple's). I can't speak highly enough about their service.

I don't think I said that you get any extra time on coverage. It's just that if you buy later on, you don't have to pay right now.

Oh, I misunderstood. The only issue with that is that free tech support by phone is only available for 90 days without AppleCare. With it, it's available for the 3 years. And tech support to me is worth paying for it now. (Besides, in 11 months, the cost could very well go up.)

My God this thread has a lot of people talking about how their mac crashed or broke or all these overheating precautions or something...

wouldn't it be easier to get a PC? Seriously, I've never had a problem with any of my PCs.

Sorry, I shouldn't be in this thread... "mac users only"...

because no one's ever had problems with PCs, of course. not to mention the dubiousness of your comment, even hardcore computer nerds with custom built and well-maintained machines, Linux or Windows, run into something.

Well, anything can happen to your computer. Apples aren't invincible, they just don't get viruses...

I just take care of my computers very well, both physically and... software-ically. I just made up a word.

Computers are computers. An Apple wont last any longer than a HP, and vice versa. Apples just require less software maintenance.

Not worth it. Applecare will cover hard drive replacement and other manufacturer faults. I have needed this once - they covered it no problem. But paying for the replacement itself would have been cheaper than paying $250 for the warranty.

But Applecare will not cover the main cause of needing repair - accidental damage such as falls or spills.

Better yet - purchase renter’s/property insurance. For most laptops, you can get accidental damage coverage for $5 a month to cover $2,000 worth of damage. This is enough to buy a brand new mac, rather than get a refurbished one if Applecare can’t repair a computer because of a mistake THEY made.
