Applicants for USC RHP 2018

I applied to RHP but didn’t get my application in until after Dec 1st. Will those of us that applied after Dec 1st deadline be notified of acceptance/rejection with upcoming notifications end of Jan / Feb?

@kittkats don’t worry hahah, my SAT score is below RHP average, Im also applying to a major w a super low acceptance rate so I’m super nervous

@megaserindipity Im not sure what happens if your submit late, but I do know that the responses coming this next week are for scholarship recipients only

@gabbbayyy Thanks for info, guess I’ll be waiting for my results in April

… Good luck to all waiting to hear this week!!

Did anyone get asked for an interview? I got asked in December for an interview by email and I’m not sure if others got this too? The email also never mentioned anything about scholarships just that they wanted to get to know me better

My son got an interview email in December and did the interview at the beginning of this month. I guess it is just a formality for all RHP applicants. He also got a live audition invitation email in early December— that only means he has passed the pre screen since he’s applying a music performance major.

For those who got interview email in Dec what majors are you apply for? Just wonder if that’s a clue for RHP admission. Was the interview in person (flew you in) and by the major department or school admission office? Is it more of an audition type or just general interview?

My son is applying for double majors—Viola Performance and Computer Science. He told me the person interviewed him through video call was the director of RHP but he was not sure. The email he received is titled “RHP Admission Interview”.

How does your son apply for double majors to begin with, by listing 1st and 2nd? Wouldn’t USC just accept him to one or the other rather than both? I am wondering if all RHP admits got this RHP interview in the past?

In any program, can only list first and second choice majors, you do not get two “first choice” majors.

In reality he’s not applying double majors since he can only put one major in his 1st choice major and in order to submit his prescreen videos, he needs to put Viola Performance in his 1st choice major.

Any RHP got the box yet? Wonder what would the portal say to RHP applicants if white box not sent now but in March. It was said they would get 1/4 at the end if admitted so would the portal still say you are not being considered for merit on Fri?

Just not considered for this round of merit for these particular scholarships (Pres, Trustee, Morks, Stamp), there are others including 1/4 Deans given out in March.

Just did an online interview with RHP director. Are all applicants interviewed?

Also wondering, in previous years, has any RHP student been awarded more than the Dean’s merit award?

@megaserindipity My son had a video interview with RHP director in the beginning of January and had a live audition on campus in the beginning of February since he’s a performance major. From reading threads from previous years, I feel that each year there are two accepted RHP students get more than the dean’s scholarships.

@pdxtigermom Thanks for the info! I was late in learning about the RHP program (11-30) but was given an extended deadline. I too am interested in music at Thornton (jazz guitar or music production) as a second major. From what I know, USC has one of the best music programs! Best of luck to your son!!

@megaserindipity I thought my son was applying to double majors too and some experienced parents advised me that they only consider your 1st choice major unless the 2nd choice major is not that competitive. I know for performance majors, you’ll have to put it as your 1st choice major, otherwise there’s no way for you to enter the slide room and submit the prescreen videos. Have you had your live audition on campus yet?

@pdxtigermom My 1st & /2nd choice majors are Philosophy/Politics/Law (interdisciplinary major) and Philosophy. If accepted into RHP, I would plan to apply/add a second major in my 2nd year.
