Did anyone apply ED to Haverford college? Feel free to discuss with me!!! I’m so excited.
My son just applied ED ! He’s so excited but nervous !
My son applied ED also. Also very excited and nervous. Dec 15th can’t get here fast enough! Best of luck to everyone.
My son also applied ED. I am nervous for him.
Current Haverford student here, wishing you all the best of luck. You’re all EDers or parents of EDers, so I guess you know a lot about Haverford already! But if you have any questions, let me know! I acutely remember how stressful the process was last year.
Thanks @larensea. What’s your favorite thing about Haverford so far?
@nadotenmom I love a lot of things here, but the community in the math department tops the list. I didn’t have a stellar math education in high school, but I knew it was a field I was interested in, so I chose Haverford for the good, intimate reputation of the department. It’s been such a refreshing change from high school. The professors I’ve gotten to interact with are intelligent, understanding, and focused on creating a good learning environment. I really enjoy Problem Solving Group, an informal club that meets on Mondays to do cool math problems-that’s taught me almost as much as classes!
A close second favorite thing is Nerd House.
Thanks @larensea ! My son is being recruited for baseball and spent an overnight with the team who seemed like a nice bunch . What’s the best freshman dorm and how’s the good are my growing 17yo’s questions ! LOL
Thanks @Larensea, that is great to hear!
@BaseballMama People tend to agree that the best first year dorm is Tritton-it’s the newest, has all singles, and is the only one that’s air-conditioned. I’ve been inside a few times (to borrow the air conditioning in the hotter months!) and it’s pretty sweet. That being said, I happen to really love living in the apartments. I have a kitchen which I share with only two other people, and the community of my hall is really excellent. Plus it’s BIG. I think on the whole, though, most people are happy with wherever they live.
Honestly, the food is always adequate, but it’s one of the things I’m most frustrated about on campus. There are good options if you know where to look, and the Dining Center does a good job of mixing variety with familiar favorites that people love. That being said, all first years (even those with full kitchens in their apartment!) are required to be on full meal plan, and with only one dining hall, that can get old FAST. People on campus are never “excited” to eat at the DC-it’s always pretty meh. Let’s just say that people don’t come to Haverford for the food
Haha! @larensea! That’s what he thought with the food! Thanks for the housing info!
The lacrosse coach made arrangements for the prospects to eat in the dining hall and my son said the food wasn’t great but he could deal with it for a year until he could go off the meal plan. He did say the coffee was absolutely undrinkable and asked for a Keurig for his room. He already saw himself there.
He loved everything else about the school. The next few weeks will be torture.
@Proudpatriot . He ate brunch at the DC as well when he spent the night with the team . He loves good coffee as well so our boys can brew their own !! He said he can handle crappy food since he loves everything else! He already sees himself there too. He has a 4.1 cum GPA and 2040 SAT so it’s on the lower end of the average so he’s nervous - the coach said admissions gave him a good pre-read but from the boards on here , I know there is no guarantee ! Which is tough for recruiting ! 2 more weeks of stress -
My sons stats are pretty good and he also got a positive pre-read. His stats are in the right place. 35 ACT, 1580 SAT, 800/770 on Chem/USH subject tests, 5.62 W, 3.95 UW. His stats won’t keep him out. Haverford seems unpredictable with admissions. My son loves the idea of just learning and not being competitive about learning. He also loves the idea that professors trust the students.
Yes – the take home finals and honor code were huge selling points for my son as well ! The night at the baseball house felt like home to him! Good luck to your son! Sounds like he won’t need it ! Impressive stats !
Does anyone know if Haverford superscores? I’ve found some stuff online that says they do but their website does not address it as far as I can see…
hi everyone! i applied ED 1 as a fencing recruit im so worried as explained by my screen name
@pleasegodhelpme What are you worried about ? Admission?
Um, yeah, I think that’s what she’s worried about. Just curious - has anyone on this board applied to Haverford ED who isn’t a recruited athlete?
My son is not a recruited athlete.
