Yeah, academically. I didn’t take it seriously enough, and I was really distracted by family stuff. I have grown a lot since then, emotionally. I go to an independent/private day school. Its hard, I would say 10/86 kids in my grade get straight A’s. I will get straight A’s, without a doubt, no matter what, this year. What sort of SSAT score should I aim for?

@lexie101816,
Oh then you’re probably not screwed academically. You’re kind of in my situation. In my school two kids get straight A’s. (have 4.0 GPA’s) I got A’s and A-'s and got the third best grades in the school. As for the SSAT aim for above an 85. Getting above the average SSAT score of a school would probably help.

BTW, I interviewed at Taft, (even though after my summer school report, I won’t go back and go through it again officially, :(. ) But, they told me that I interviewed very well. But I am still really worried about my 7th grade report and Taft SS results.

@lexie101816,
Well for Kent you’re probably good. Kent isn’t as selective as the other schools you’re applying to. (No offense to Kent, it’s a good school) As for the other’s, getting a C+ in seventh grade could kill you, but if you make yourself really interesting and desirable then you might have a chance.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I am applying there, but I forgot to list it. Anything I can do that can help me get into a HADES school?

i really want to go to a HADES school, especially DA.

@lexie101816,
I want to go to top tier schools as well, but it’s not guaranteed that you’re going to get in. Just present yourself well and make yourself seem interesting. Get straight A’s in eighth grade, nail the SSAT, (btw have you taken a practice test? It can help you determine how much you need to study) and nail the interview. After that it’s in the hands of the gods. (aka admissions officers) Good luck and hopefully you’ll be one of my classmates.

@ ifax108, where are you applying? I’m sorry I have talked ALOT about me, but I dont know that much about you! And I’ve taken a practice test but I don’t really understand the RAW score part. What RAW score should I aim for? Basically I have my results, but I dont understand them, LOL.

@lexie101816,
If you have the Princeton Review SSAT book you can tell what Raw score is equal to what percentile. Seeing as you loose a fourth of a point for each wrong question getting below a 50 raw score is probably not so great. But I could be wrong. As for me, I’m applying to: Middlesex, Concord Academy, Deerfield, Exeter, Andover, Kent, Taft, maybe Groton and Milton. What were your results?

630’s. Not Good, but please convert 'em for me if you can! I am starting with a PR tutor on Wed. God, it wasn’t cheap so hopefully it will work! Have you worked w/ a tutor? Do they help @ all?

@lexie101816,
I haven’t worked with a tutor. I test well so it hasn’t been necessary.I got a 93 on the SSAT in seventh grade so I assume I’ll do well. As for your scores a 630 is around a 50. Ouch, not so great. Well the tutor hopefully can bring that up to something passable. But remember that the SSAT isn’t everything. I read on a blog about prep school admissions that the SSAT was only about 10% of your application.

What would the RAW score be for a 93. And I know that they were terrible. Trust me, I am going to take this really seriously. Congrats on yours!

@lexie101816,
Thanks and the raw score for a 93 would be a 53/60 (755) for verbal, a 47/50 (765) for math, and a 38/40(710) for reading. It’s hard to score well. An overall raw score of a 93 would be around 2270. I got a 98 in reading, an 88 in verbal and a 70 in math. Over the summer I took a practice test and got a perfect reading score (800) a 95 for verbal (770) and an 85 (740) in math. Overall I got a 96 composite (2310). That was really hard though, and I guess I got lucky.

WOW!! Do you have to take it again? And any tips on studying?

I got a 96 on a practice test that my mom made me take a few weeks ago. I didn’t take the 93 one again because I felt that it was a good score. As for studying, use the Princeton Review book and the Kaplan’s book. They are life savers. Also study a tiny bit of Algebra 1 if you haven’t already. I studied the first term of Algebra 1 online on [Algebra help- Engaging lessons, Word Problems, Videos, and Formulas](http://www.algebra-class.com/) website. This helps in the math section. As for Verbal use the Princeton Review’s vocabulary list. It will save your life for the Verbal section. And reading is the hardest thing to study for. Just read as much as you can I guess. I love to read so that wasn’t a problem for me. =) Hope you do well on the SSAT.

At one of the HADES schools I interviewed at, my interviewer said that you should aim for 80+ on each section.

@2010,
I heard 85+ but whatever same thing pretty much.

Do reading certain books help? And I got a 750 on the math part of the practice test I took.

is berkshire school any good? i thought it was just like a terrible school?

^ I heard it’s actually really good but it depends on what kind of school you’re looking for. Berkshire might not be for everybody.
