Hi, everyone!

Some of you may recognize me as an applicant from last year. I applied to Deerfield, Middlesex, Lawrenceville, St. George's, Blair, The Hill School and, later on, Asheville. I was rejected at Lawrenceville and The Hill, waitlisted at St. George's, Middlesex, and Deerfield, and was accepted at Blair. At first I was ecstatic at my acceptance to Blair, but when we received the financial aid information, we found out that it was not nearly as much as we needed. Unfortunately, Blair was out of the picture, even after my parents attempted to work with the school to come up with an amount that would be realistic for my family. Blair was amazing throughout this process - they were respectful, and did everything in their power to supply us with enough financial aid. However, it did not work out.

I was desperate to go to boarding school, though, so I applied late to the Asheville School, which is in North Carolina. It happened so fast - I applied through SSAT, which already had all of my essays, grades, and recommendations, and I had a Skype interview a few days after I decided to apply there. I was accepted, but again, there wasn't enough financial aid.

Because of this sad outcome, I have stayed away from CC for a few months, and I honestly believe that was a great choice for me. I finished off the school year strong, with a stellar report card and comments. Boarding school was the last thing on my mind. I focused on school, family, and friends, and now that the summer has arrived, I have been tearing through the book stores, reading everything I can get my hands on, and sleeping way too late. I have treasured these past few weeks, because for the first time all year, I have felt rested and satisfied. All year, I have been working non-stop on schoolwork, essays, stressing about whether or not I'll be accepted, and feeling heartbroken when the outcome was what it was. Now, I am just relishing the fact that I have nothing on my to-do list. I urge you all to enjoy resting and relaxing this summer, in order to be prepared for the next year.

This brings me to my next point - this thread. Throughout the whole application process, the Applicants of 2012 thread was very helpful. I made friends and connections, learned a lot about schools, and discovered great new things. That thread was so instrumental to my applications, I felt inclined to create this years one. Everybody who is applying for the 2013-2014 school year, whether you are a new applicant or a reapplicant, should feel welcome to post in this. I realize that this is a bit early, but I figured we could take the next few weeks to get to know each other, begin to form an idea of which schools you want to apply to, etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this - it was unnecessarily long, I know - and feel free to start posting!

I’m considering Exeter, so I will probably be bombarding you with questions soon!

But I’m happy, and that’s the only thing that really matters.
