I am starting this thread for those of us still waiting for an admission decision from The University of Toronto. I submitted my application via the OUAC late November of last year. My file was considered complete as of the end of January and has been “Under Review” since then. Furthermore, the status for all my submitted documents on the Status Check page says “Reviewed”. However, I am still waiting for an admission decision.
I suspect most of us who applied last year will get our admission decisions by the end of this month (or early April the latest). Based on what I’ve learned on the Join U of T Forums, is that late March is when a good bulk of admission decisions are sent out. U of T will be hosting an event for newly admitted U.S. students on April 8th so I’m thinking a majority of U.S. students who applied would have received their decisions by then. However, there will be another event on May 29th for newly admitted U.S. students so if you haven’t received a decision by April, don’t sweat too much (it all depends on when you submitted your application; and it can take 6-8 weeks to receive a decision from the time your file is considered complete - i.e. when all supporting documents have been received by U of T).
So if you applied and are still waiting for an admission decision please post in this thread so we can keep track of when decisions are been sent out. Please include when you applied and when your file was considered complete if possible and update when you do receive a decision. The waiting process can stressful as there is a lot of uncertainty and unknown. Let’s all help each other out.
I will update as soon as I receive my decision. I am a transfer student from the U.S.
My daughter applied on Jan 3rd, 2017. Her application was not processed by OUAC till Jan 21st. OUAC was behind by two week in processing 105D applications. I called them and they told me that Universities will still see the application date Jan 3rd. But she received acknowledgement from UofT at the very end of January, she barely had time to create her Engineering profile. She applied to Engineering and to Art and Science. Engineering just yesterday changed the status of her application to “under review”, so no response yet. Art and science worked faster. Application switched to under review at the end of February (or early March, I don’t remember) and last week she got an acceptance. At the same time her friend from Toronto got her acceptance as well, but she applied much earlier (early December 2016), and her application was under for a long time.
U of T, and most Canadian universities, do not have rolling admissions. They have specific dates, which vary by university and program, at which decisions go out. Decisions start going out in mid-December. Most admissions decisions from U of T come out at the end of March, but students may not hear until the end of May. Students should apply in November for all Canadian universities in order to have sufficient time for any supplements. D16 had some supplements that were due at the end of December.
Thanks for your response Nata11 and congrats on your daughter’s admission to Arts and Science! Some applications are definitely processed quicker than others. I guess it depends on the strength of each student’s academic record. My file has been under review since the beginning of February, but still no response as yet. I have a feeling I will hear by the end of this month or early April. I will let you know. Please keep us updated on your daughter’s Engineering app.
Bourders, I believe U of T does rolling admissions for international students (especially those with strong academic records) however the bulk of the admissions seem to follow the pattern you described. I like what you said about most admission decisions coming out at the end of March. I hope I hear from them by month’s end because I received an offer from Ryerson which expires at the end of the month.
@bouders I believe that may be true for domestic Canadian applicants, but the admission track is slightly different for international applicants as the universities must allow them enough time to obtain the necessary study permits from the Canadian consulate in their respective countries.
This is why international applicants usually receive admission decision before domestic applicants and therefore may be required to respond earlier to an offer.
Canadian applicant here (though UofT is my absolute last choice haha). I still haven’t heard, and nor have all my other friends (both people who will most certainly get in and borderline candidates applying for engineering) who applied to arts at St. George campus. Several people who applied for sciences at UofT Mississauga have heard affirmatively. Those of us in limbo expect to hear next week.
Thank you TortousProcess! I like your username by the way… very fitting term to describe the wait lol. I also suspect we’ll hear by the end of next week or the first week in April at latest. Please keep us updated when you do hear.
Thanks, NewCanadian, and I certainly reciprocate the feeling! We have plenty of room for, and are very welcoming of, new canadians haha. I expect we’ll all hear at the same time.
Which programs did everyone apply to? I think those who applied to Victoria/Trinity College have the extra long wait, since those applications are actually read.
I got into Trinity as an international applicant in January, I was told on a tour that International is rolling admission and domestic is done in three batches, I know the first two of the three have gone out.
I applied to U of T Engineering as an international student back in October. I haven’t heard yet either. Hoping to hear soon Maybe in the next couple of weeks.
@TortuousProcess I applied to Social Sciences at UTSG and to alternative programs at UTM and UTSC as a backup. I specifically put Victoria and Trinity at the bottom of my rankings as I’m aware how competitive it is to get into those colleges, and I didn’t want to deal with the extra headache.
UTSG is my first preference, but I wouldn’t mind admission to any of the other two campuses. I just want to get in. U of T is a great school!
@leesle1234 Yes international students are admitted on a rolling basis. It follows a 6-8 weeks timeline from when your file is considered considered complete (not from when your application was submitted). I do believe students with very strong academic records hear back earlier than others though which was probably what happened in your case.
Can you tell us when you applied and when your file was considered complete?
@puckpusher I hear U of T’s Engineering program is very competitive so it takes a bit longer to get decisions from that program. Nonetheless, I strongly believe we’ll all be getting our decisions over the next week or two. When did you get all your documents in to them? Start counting 8 weeks from the date your file was complete to get a good idea of when you will definitely hear back.
Coincidentally, my file was complete at the end of January so my 8 weeks timeline matures at the end of March which is just around the same time U of T rolls out batch decisions for domestic applicants. I think I’ll get my decision by the end of this week or by the end of the first week in April.
I got an offer from Ryerson around two weeks ago so I’m hoping U of T comes through for me. I’ll keep everyone posted.
@NewCanadian They received everything the first or second week of January. My application went under review on the 18th of January and I got in on the 19th. I applied for Arts and Sciences.
@NewCanadian Hi. I had my application complete on January 10th, but they asked for another document on March 1st which I uploaded right away. I have some potential transfer credit so they needed one more set of course descriptions. I am hoping that didn’t delay it even further.
