Application at Berkeley cancelled by Admissions

Hi guys,

so Im a recent transfer from East Los Angeles City College, Ive gotten into Berkeley with a full scholarship. However, my advisor contacted me two weeks ago to tell me that my IGETC was only partially certified. Im missing the second year of foreign language, Ive taken Spanish 1 and French 1. My counselor at the cc said it was not necessary for me to continue with language at the cc level and so long as I had everything else satisfied I could take level 2 at the university. When I explained that to Berkeley they cancelled my application after I SIR’d and I have housing and a work-study job all lined up for me. Many, many people Ive talked to currently attending Berkeley or soon to attend in the fall have said they did not take language level 2 or were able to get in through a different pathway. Why was I singled out, is there something I can do? Has this happened to anyone else? Berkeley admissions website says igetc does not have to be complete but it is recommended. Several people were told by their admissions advisors that they would just have to take more classes at the university since they did not complete the igetc.

Hi,
I’m having same situation as you did. I was informed about admission cancellation on August 10th because of the incomplete foreign language section on IGETC. Now my classes were dropped, no missions need to be completed… Did you try appealing? What did the school say?

This is so unfair to us. I just found out the cancellation and I’m stuck in the weekend that I can’t reach to the admission office to explain. I had settled up my apartment, car, and all the stuff ready for the new beginning. But now…every preparation seems useless at this point. I can’t even take the orientation which I’ve been expecting.

If you had successfully appealed for readmission, please let me know and share. If you’re still fighting for it, we can fight it together.

Thanks!
