Application Cheaters

So, I was wondering....if people try and cheat on the SATs....they probably cheat on a lot of other application factors too, right? Some people must make up some extracurriculurs or acheivements that they have received, like the Gold Award for Girl Scouts, and the Eagle Scout Rank in Boy Scouts. How can a college check this...so that they accept the honest ppl...with good resumes?

cheat on the SATs? you mean like cheat on the test or report a false score? reporting a false score is simply stupid because collegeboard will send an official report of all your test scores. as for the other stuff, colleges do have ways of checking. it's true that it's rare that they check, but play it safe. some people do get away with it, but if you're caught then...well, you know...

yeah i doubt that many people really cheat

If you falsify application information and or official documents to the UC system you are put on a UC wide ban even if you just apply to one of the UC's and based on each UC you could be banned for life or just need to submit a letter stating the incident and hoping they will accept your application in the future

Also, if you falsify your extracurriculars and you're caught, I've heard admission counselors at privates contact other schools and report you, meaning you won't be accepted anywhere...besides community colleges

You can have any acceptance based on a false app rescinded & you can be forced to leave the U if you're already enrolled based on a false app. You'd be surprised at how small the world really is & how lies can come back to haunt the person who uses them for an "edge" or "leg up."
I've read of folks who have been caught out when the U's admissions rep visits the campus & engages in casual conversation with the HS counselor or has an interview with other HS students at the HS. The risks seem disproportionate to any real "edge," from my perspective as a parent.

haha this is good news, i don't want people beating me out by cheating

LoL yeah. I do know there are some "bull***** artists" out there who can make themselves sound amazing, but on the whole, I think if people were to do something like put down fake activities, the admissions officers would know by the essays that the person was not truly devoted or sincere.

well thers nothing wrong with overemphasizing what you do....like i've been volunteering at this place, basically picking up trash and stuff what im i going to write, that i was head organizer of a beautification porject which cleaned up a neighborhood, doesn't that sound alot better than throwing crap way lol.

haha yeah.....beautifying the resume within reason...is alright

At my school there is this really smart, crafty kid and he actually recreated many school IDs to take other peoples SAT. He made a business out of it at school, but eventually the principal found out and it was put on his permanant record and he was expelled for a year. The kid ended up going to a community college. And the kids that hired him got their SAT scores cancelled and they each got suspended for 2 weeks.

So bottom line is, dont even try to cheat the SAT it can ruin your life. This is a serious thing I dont reccomend cheating anywhere on an application, its not worth it.

Ah, too bad the kids & his customers couldn't have used their considerable talents & money to do good & well instead of trying to cheat the system. It's sad that folks feel so desperate that they will stoop to such depths. :(

wow.... haha yeah...he must have been pretty smart to try and fool the SAT, and to do well enough that others wanted him to take it for them

oh yeah...it was even in the local newspapers.

I could have taken the SATs for my little sister, and no one would have noticed. I didn't, obviously, but it's not that hard to do.

oooooh! i'm soo telling on you! u know how much trouble you could get in cuz u could have taken her SATs? haha lol...im guessin u look similar?

Not that similar, but we're both Indian, and generally, it's hard for people to distinguish faces in races apart from their own.

But I'm a much better test taker, so the idea was jokingly passed around for a while.

i heard some schools will even take back your diploma after graduation if they find out you lied big-time on your application. don't know if it's true, just some other cc-er mentioned it once

Twins can cheat for each other and never be caught.

Wouldn't really say NEVER because that's a long time & often folks who know them well actually CAN tell twins apart, including some school personnel.
